Holly sat there, her knees to her chest as she rested her back on cold glass of the human's jar. How did she get caught? What was he going to do to her..?

She glanced up at the top of the jar, which was covered by a metal lid. It was loose, so she could breathe at least. Did that mean he wasn't going to hurt her? She doubted that; it was likely just so he could toy with a living being.

Humans were like that. They liked feeling superior to other things, overwhelmed with a sense of power. She saw the look in the human's eyes when he grabbed her and put her in this glass prison.

She wasn't stupid, by the way. She wasn't in the open when he found her. The jerk had put out mousetraps and her jacket had gotten stuck in one just in time for him to come find her. Her hopes of him getting her out and then letting her go had been squandered.

Only the first part happened. And then? Not really anything, and that was the scary part. His blue eyes were calm, but otherwise emotionless when he'd pulled out out of the trap only to drop her into a Mason jar. What a gentleman.

He'd been gone since this morning, right after he'd put her in there. Holly had to wonder what the bean was doing. It was nearly dark outside and, just for your information, being stuck in a jar all day is more boring than you'll ever know. And nerve-racking.

Holly had plenty of time for her mind to wander to every scenario imaginable. Even the thought that he might pour water into the jar with her still inside had crossed her mind.

Oh, and she'd tried to escape. She tried countless times to tip the jar over. She'd slammed into the side so many times, her shoulder was extremely sore and had already started to bruise. The simple fact was, she wasn't heavy enough to do anything. She was too small. Too pathetic.

She was so wrapped up in thought that she'd nearly missed the sound of the lock to the door being fiddled with. The bean was coming.

Panic set in. What could she do? Time seemed to slow as she weighed her options. She finally decided on pretending she was asleep. Holly hastily moved into a sleeping position, curling up. Her eyes closed just in time for the door to be opened.

Okay, Holly. Just sell that you're asleep. Maybe he'll leave you alone. In...Out...In.. Good. Breathing slowly became difficult as she felt the tremors the human sent getting closer. She stifled a whimper as a shadow fell over her, trying to keep up her act.

"So, you're still here."

It was only a murmur, but it made Holly flinch and snap her eyes open, standing up and pushing against the glass as far away as she could from the giant being.

"You were faking. Clever."

His words meant nothing to her as she stood there, trembling against the cold, hard surface.

"Aww." He mocked with an annoying smirk. "You scared of me, whatever you are?"

Holly held her tongue, deciding to shoot a glare his way, which would have been intimidating if she weren't a borrower.

"That's cute." His voice was void of emotion, which unsettled her, her glare falling in fear as his fingers wrapped around the glass. "Come 'ere."

The Australian held the jar to his face as he unscrewed the loose lid. Holly scrambled away from the hand that entered the jar with a shriek, struggling as he gripped her leg, pulling her out as she dangled upside down. He lifted her to his face to examine her.

She managed to swing her arm out and hit him in the nose. He looked baffled for a moment and Holly worried that he'd be mad and crush her like a bug.

Instead, and much to her surprise, she was lowered onto his palm. She backpedaled away from his face only to run into the curled fingers.

"Feisty one, aren't ya?" He chuckled.

Holly was almost positive he wasn't going to hurt her, somehow feeling safer. But not enough to keep sitting in his palm.

"P-Put me down!" She stuttered at first, by her tone was impressively firm for talking to someone so much bigger.

He quirked a brow, and Holly thought she saw a flash of a mixture of confusion and awe in his calm blue eyes before he masked it. Before she knew it, she was standing on the counter, the bean leaning on his forearms on the counter looking at her.

"So you can talk. In that case.." Holly waited for something like 'I'll have to sell you' but it never came. "What's your name?"

"Holly." She said, a guarded tone still in her voice.

"Ross." He introduced. "So, Holly. What are you?"

"A....borrower." She said after a few moments of hesitation.

"And why have I never heard of your kind?"

"We aren't supposed to be seen." What was he, stupid?

Oh, of course! Borrowers want to be found by beings so much larger than them. The very same beings that have killed and tortured her kind. Yes, let's get spotted by those! Not.

"Well, it seems like you failed that part."

Holly felt her mouth fall open. The nerve-

"And you're perfect, are you? Who catches a person in a freaking mouse trap and then stuffs them in a jar for a day? Then proceeds to grab them and ask them questions, but just so happens to leave out the 'are you okay' part? I'm 1fine, just in case you were wondering. Oh wait, you weren't."

Silence fell between the two, Ross actually looking surprised at her sudden outburst.

"My bad."

"Whatever, human."Holly rolled her eyes.

Their attitudes towards each other seemed indifferent now, but soon, they both had a feeling they'd get along well.
