Night was always a beautiful thing. No matter how dark it was, it was never truly pitch black. Whether it was stars or the moon, here was always light. Always hope for a way out.
But tonight didn't seem like hope would get you out of your predicament.
You ran, your heart pounding as you felt the ground shaking, the consistent tremors of the giant's footfall making the ground unstable and your chances of escape less than slim.
"Come out, come out, wherever ye are~"
The terrifying and loud voice made you shake as you slid into a cave of your size—you were human, so that wasn't much of a difficulty. You hoped desperately that the giant wasn't as good at Hide 'N Seek as you thought he was as you scooted back as far as you did, your back meeting the cold stone. Your breath caught in your chest as an enormous leg—connected to a being more than big enough to kill you without a second thought—became visible in front of the cave.
You, being a child after all, had a vivid imagination. You imagined your death clearly as the legs bent down into a squat, and you let out a startled gasp.
"I hear ye lass~"
Your heart skipped a beat. He knew where you were now. The giant who had been chasing you—definitely a predator of sorts—had been surprisingly human. Or, demon, really, but y'know. Anyway, he'd been wearing ripped black jeans and overall just dark clothing. The hair was a dark green (or was it brown? Eh, color shmolor) and he had what seemed to be a fatal cut across his throat.
But he was still alive.
How, you didn't know, but that didn't matter to you at the moment. Now, he was crouched in front of your hiding place. The glow of eyes was reflected by the moonlight and you whimpered as his hand reached in. The fingers strained right in front of your face as they reached their limit, the cave entrance only letting the hand get so far.
You relaxed slightly as you realized you were just out of his reach.
Or so you thought.
He made one final, desperate grab. You watched in horror as two tree-like fingers closed around your leg. You felt numb as he began pulling you closer to him and out of the darkness of the cave.
The moonlight shone off of his sharp canines as he smirked teasingly, dangling you upside-down by your leg in front of his face.
"What will I do with you~?"
His sing-song voice made you whimper, your body wracking with nerves.
"Leave me alone!"
Your squeal made his grin widen, but it faded at the sight of the tears running down your face.
"Hey, lass, shhh." He lowered you into his palm. "I'm sorry, (Y/N), Ye know I'm just playin' around."
As he shushed you, your façade dropped and you grinned widely. "I know." You told him sweetly.
The truth was, you'd met this giant—Anti—years ago. Tonight was just a fun game of Hide 'N Seek. You'd decided early on that tonight's game would be different.
You saw the shock on his face dissolve into a soft smile, accompanied by a chuckle.
"Why ye little—!"
You squealed and giggled as his fingers brushed over your stomach.
"Ticklish?"
You quickly shook your head back and forth, but he actually saw through this façade, and he began to tickle you mercilessly.
Though you were gasping for breath, you were glad you'd met Anti all those years ago. He'd keep you safe.
