Terror.

Fear.

Horror.

That was all you felt as a hand snaked toward you. A gigantic hand that outsized you and could quite literally squeeze the life out of you.

This is it, You thought as the fingers shot out to wrap around you. Ice shot through your veins, a knife coated in dread plunging into your abdomen and then—

You jolted awake with a gasp, trying to calm your rapid breathing. It wasn't real. Just a dream.

Still, it did nothing to calm your still racing heart. It only further unsettled you to remember that you'd had that dream multiple times before tonight.

You glanced over at your phone, clicking a button and watching as the screen lit up. You squinted, blinking a few times before you made out the time.

3:47 am.

You groaned and pushed yourself to your feet, walking to your kitchen. Maybe water would help you sleep or something. All you really wanted was a distraction from the memories of the nightmare that plagued your mind.

You got a glass out and filled it with water, glancing out a window and taking a long swig. Something streaked across the sky and your gaze followed it.

A shooting star...should you make a wish?

"I wish..." You began softly, deciding to at least give yourself some kind of hope that something could change. It would give you a goal to reach at least. "I wish things were different. That I was different. I wish I could just.. be happy. Permanently."

Your eyes trailed to your run-down home. You were behind on bills, your job didn't pay well, and you were pretty hungry too.

A wave of exhaustion hit you and you placed your glass of water down on the kitchen counter, deciding to just get it in the morning. You stumbled towards your room, aiming to get into bed and rest as well as you could before your morning shift.

But you collapsed on the floor, snoring when your vision faded and the black sea of unconsciousness claimed you.

A groan was the first thing that escaped you as something nudged you. It felt like someone was trying to shake you awake, but you lived alone so who...?

"Is it alive?" Someone above her asked. It sounded like a guy trying to whisper, but horribly failing. It was still loud. And.. British? "What is it?"

"Dan!" Another British voice—also male—scolded the other in a quiet voice. The pressure that was shaking you was removed from the shoulder it was shaking gently. "Don't you think that's offensive? It—I mean they.. look like a person. Just..."

You groaned again as you woke up a bit more. Everything hurt. Every muscle felt like you had just done a full body workout. You sat up, rubbing your eyes tiredly.

Maybe the landlord sent people to get you up? That didn't really make sense either.

You opened your eyes and immediately wished you didn't. But you couldn't take it back. You couldn't quell the shaking that racked your body at the sight.

"...smaller." The voice finished. Your eyes trailed up and widened at the sight. It was a man, pale as all hell and gigantic.

He was a giant. What. The. Hell.

Terror.

Fear.

Horror.

That was all you felt as a hand snaked toward you. A gigantic hand that outsized you and could quite literally squeeze the life out of you.

This is it, You thought as the fingers shot out to wrap around you. Ice shot through your veins, a knife coated in dread plunging into your abdomen and then—

The fingers were upon you. One of the pale digits brushed your shoulder and you threw your body backwards. You gasped for air as it was forced from your lungs, your back slamming into the wooden surface. You scrambled backwards, using your hands to propel you away from them. You slid back against the wall, panicking and pushing yourself into it as much as you could.

"No! Please!" You shouted in panic and threw your arms out in front of you to protect your head and squeezed your eyes closed, for all the good that would do. Moments passed and... nothing happened.

What?

But wasn't this the part where the giant crushed you? Wrapped his fingers around your tightly and made the light leave your terrified eyes?

You hesitantly opened your eyes, peeking fearfully up at them. Your eyes landed on the hand that was frozen only an inch away from your face, ignoring the shocked glances the two were exchanging. The hand shifted and you cried out, burying your head in your knees, your heart pounding frantically.

"No, wait, we...we don't hurt you. Right, Dan?" The soft quality of the voice surprised you, and you found yourself wondering if he was being truthful. What reason would he have to lie, when you really thought about it? They both had enough power to kill you with a simple motion.

You tentatively uncurled and lowered your arms, trembling as your eyes trailed up to meet theirs.

"That's it," The other one—Dan, you assumed—gave you a small sympathetic smile as you cringed back. "So... you can talk."

The casual comment sent you back into a panic. They didn't have to physically hurt you to ruin your life. If they sold you to a lab, you'd be studied, dissected—

"Please, d-don't—Lab—Can't—" You began to hyperventilate, your eyes wide and wild with fear. Though your speech was anything but entirely cohesive and comprehensible, they seemed to understand.

They stumbled over their words for a moment before both of them seemed to arrive at the same thing.

"We won't do that—" They spoke in unison, exchanging several different glances before the one with fluffy brown hair knelt in front of you.

"I'm Dan, and that's Phil. We just want to help, okay?" He waited for you to nod before extending a finger slowly, you watching warily. "It's a handshake," He smirked at your expression, snorting as you frowned indignantly.

"I know," You scoffed softly, grabbing his index finger with both of your hands, exchanging looks of awe with the giant—Dan. His name was Dan, right. "Y-Y/N..." You introduced quietly, shaking the digit and slowly standing up. "Um... am I still on earth? What are you? I don't know where I am and I'm so scared—"

A hiccuping sob escaped you as you let your emotions explode from the bottle they'd been trapped in, from even before any of this happened.

"No, hey, shhh." Phil was there now, close and comforting. Minty breath washed over you, the warmth encircling you. A gentle rubbing motion began on your back. It was soothing, and you calmed down quickly. "There you go....As for your questions, yes and.. we're humans."

You jerked your head up, looking at him in alarm. Everything spilled out of you, and I mean E V E R Y T H I N G. Your run-down house. The shooting star. Your wish. The fact that you were human.

And they said they'd help. And you believed them.
