The next few days had been a bit uneventful, other than a few frustrations with how nonchalant he seemed to be as he sent her more texts.
Now she was just spending time with Kai more. He'd always been there for her, and she wanted to be there for him now, especially as she spotted him on the floor across from her, cradling his arm.
The girl's eyes widened and she carefully scooped him up, muttering an apology as even her careful movement made him wince.
"What happened, Kai? Are you okay?" She focused her concerned blue eyes on his arm, widening at the sight of blood.
She started to carry him to the bathroom. She could find some first aid stuff there to help him. To stop the bleeding and clean the wound.
"Rat." Was all he said through a pained gasp. She gingerly ruffled his fluffy brown hair as she placed him carefully on the counter.
"Sorry, Kai." She grimaced a bit as she carefully peeled his sleeved away from the wound. "I'll try to fix that soon. We can talk about ways that will be safe for you after you've rested a bit, okay?"
He just nodded with a small smile that she returned. She muttered a sympathetic apology as she rubbed the alcohol on the wound carefully with a Q-Tip.
She talked with him about everything going and before they knew it, the wound was clean and wrapped.
"Seriously, Em. That guy's a dick." He shot her a smirk at the look on her face. "What? You should focus on the fact that you graduate soon. You were so excited to decorate your cap."
She just stared at him blankly for a second. "You were just attacked by a rat, and you're telling me to decorate my cap?" He beamed you're at her and her heart melted. "You're too good for me, Kai."
He just grinned and shook his head.
"Mind if I help?"
So that was how they spent at least an hour working on her cap. He helped her place the smaller beads with his good arm, even against her worries that he might still agitate the wound.
But she was so incredibly thankful that he was starting to make her forget about her ex more and more. Make her focus on positivity and making her laugh rather than cry.
And she was about to go officially out of high school into adult life.
