Chapter Thirty Seven

ELLAS POV

I got off the plane in California. The weather was beautiful and it was crazy hot. I collected my luggage and went to a waiting area. Joeys plane wasn't going to be in for another half hour.
I picked up my phone and checked my texts. I had two. The first was from my Mom.

Hey Honey, Have a safe flight.
Text me as soon as you land x

I replied with:

Officially in California 😎

I then notices I had a text from Tom.

Hello Ella, there has been a
Change in schedule and I can
Only fit your audition in for today at three o'clock, I will send a car
To pick you up. See you then

I looked at the time and it was half two, Joey wouldn't be in until three. I bit my lip, what was i going to do.
I had to go to the Audition, I sent joey a quick text, he wasn't going to be happy.

I went to the collection area and there was a man standing with a sign with my name printed on it. I went over to him.
"Hi I'm Ella" I said.
"Oh of course Ms Harris, Welcome to California".
"Thank you, it's great to be here".
"Well if you please come with me, I'll take you straight to the studios, Mr Justins wouldn't like to be kept waiting".

He brought me out to the car and began driving. The studio was only a twenty minute drive away. When we got there, I went inside, the man would take my luggage to the hotel. I went to reception and they led me up to the sound booths. This was where I met Tom for the first time.

"Ella!" He cheered shaking my hand "Thank you so much for coming on such short notice, I'm a busy man".
"No honestly it's fine, it's great to be here!".
"So what we're going to do is, I'm going to give you a few lines and we will go into the sound booths and we will see how it goes".
We entered the booth and there was already another boy, around my age, sitting in there.

"Ella, this is Nate" Tom said "He is voicing the main character in our new project".
"Good to meet you" I said offering my hand to him.
"And you" he smiled shaking it.
"So Ella, here are the scripts, just use the same voice you had in the play" Tom said handing me a sheet of paper.

I sat down at the microphone and coughed, clearing my throat.
I read the first line. I then put on my 'Ginny Voice' saying it the best I could. I went through the other lines and it took about an hour.
Then Tom came in and spoke to me again "Okay Ella so we really like what we're hearing so we thought that you could run through some dialogue with Nate, just to see how your voices work with one anothers".

Nate came in and sat on the seat beside mine. I was given more sheets of paper and it took ages to go through. By the time it was all over it was about half five.

We both exited the sound booths and spoke to Tom.
"So we will get back to you as soon as we can about how you did, but for now you can just relax and enjoy the rest of your trip".

I left the studio and as I was walking out of the building I heard a voice shouting my name.
"Ella!". I tured around and Nate was coming up behind me.
"Oh hey" I smiled.
"Hey Ella" he laughed "I was just wondering do you like need a ride to your hotel? I mean I can take you there, I'm from Cali".
"Oh really? That would be a huge help" I sighed.
"Yeah I want to get to know my new coworker".
"Do you actually think I'll get the job?" I asked.
"Well everyone else that auditioned didn't make Tom as happy as you did so I'd be pretty positive" He said.

I couldn't help but grin, this was a huge opportunity.
"I really hope so" I smiled.
He pointed out his car and we hopped inside. Nate began driving and we started talking again.

"So Ella, I watched A very potter musical and I admit that you're an amazing singer and actor. Have you been performing for long?" He asked.
"No actually, A Very Potter Musical was my first ever time doing anything like that" I said.
"Woah I honestly wouldn't have known, you were so professional".
"Well I wouldn't have said that, it was just a bit of a bit of fun really".
"..and you're in college right?".
"Well I had to drop out in November because I had a pretty serious accident".
"Really?! What happened".
"I was climbing down a firescape and I fell and basically shattered my legs and I basically was in recovery for the last four months, but I was really lucky that I can walk and everything again".
"Wow I wouldn't even have expected that either".
"Yeah it has been a really crazy year for me"
"Honestly you deserve a big break like this" Nate laughed.
"So how did you get into voice acting?" I asked.
"Well Tom is actually my uncle, and he had gotten me into the studio since I was young, he had me voice a few minor characters in cartoons when I was younger but he has been working on this new project for ages and he basically just thought that it was time for me to do something bigger and yeah that's really it".
"Really, that's pretty cool".
"Yeah I love it too, I'm not a huge fan of being on camera so it's just a perfect job for me to have".
"I never would have known you and Tom were related".
"He is my father's brother and since my dad passed away when I was young he helped me and my mom and he's just like a father to me".
"Oh.. I'm so sorry".
"Don't be sorry, you have nothing to apologise for".
I really liked Nate he was just very honest about how he felt and was just real about things.

We drove on into the city of Burbank he pulled up outside.
"Well this is your stop" he smiled.
"I hope I'll see you soon, thank you so much for bringing me out here" I said getting out of the car.
"No problem I'll see you soon, definetley. Oh and take my number, just in case you need a tour guide or someone" he said scribbling his number on an old receipt.
"Thank you so much" I smiled.
