"We're not who we used to be, we're just two ghosts standing in the place of you and me, trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat."

I hung up the phone as I ran a hand through the my hair. I couldn't go to the lunch because I had a plane to catch, another tour to go on. Oh god, the boys were going to be devastated. Harry was.
I quickly packed my things before rolling my luggage to the lobby, where a porter takes my bags for me. I make my way to the large room in the center of the hotel where everyone was. The boys engulfed me in a hug as soon as I walked in the door, all of them saying things I couldn't understand.
They stepped back, their smiles falling as they saw my frown. "What's wrong?"
Harry eyed my purse before looking at me. "Where you going?"
"Boys, it has been great to manage your tour, to be apart of your family, but I have another job," I said, meeting Harry's eyes. "On to it."
"You're leaving?" Harry asked, stepping forward.
"You know how it is," I said, fighting back tears. "Work is work."
His eyebrows furrowed as he crossed his arms, tears in his eyes. The boys individually gave me a hug before I stopped on Harry. I could see the anger and confusion in his eyes as I wrapped my arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. I pressed my lips against his cheek, before pulling a smile.
"Be good, boys, don't cause any trouble," I smiled at them. "Hope to see you all again."
I quickly turned around, making it to the door where I turned around, meeting Harry's eyes one last time before leaving. I got into the car where I quickly swiped tears from my cheeks.
2 years later
"Madeline, you did great on your last two tours, there's another one we have for you." My boss, Jason said through the phone.
"Of course," I said, pulling on my shirt from the floor. "I'll be there in twenty."
I hung up, picking up my clothes from the floor. Someone's arms wrapped around my waist, their lips pressing against my neck.
"Where're you going?" Ben asked, his lips brushing against my ear.
"I finally have a tour." I said, turning around to look at him.
"Finally?" he grinned, his hands on my hips. "It's been almost six months."
"Exactly," I chuckled. "I'm eager to go out again."
"Eager to leave your boyfriend for nine months?" He frowned, his lips pressing against mine.
"You're not my boyfriend." I chuckled, kissing his lips quickly.
I got to my office fairly quickly, up the elevator and to my boss' office, where he stood with his back facing me, a phone to his ear. He turned to me before hanging up, a smile evident on his face.
"It's great to have you back, we've got the perfect tour for you," he said, sitting down. "It's his first solo tour as it's going to be huge."
"Who is it?" I asked, sitting down in a chair in front of his desk.
"Harry Styles."
I felt the breath leave my lungs as my heart dropped to my feet. My biggest fear was coming back face to face with him. After leaving him standing there alone.
"Madeline, did you hear me?"
I blinked, turning back to him. "I'm sorry, what?"
"I said that you've worked with his before, yes?"
I nodded. "I have."
"Well, that's great," Jason said. "You're meeting with his team tomorrow and his tour is starting in a few months."
"Great," I said, standing up and shaking his hand. "Thank you."

"Why are you panicking if you had a great tour with them before?" Ben asked as I paced around my apartment.
"It's more than that, Ben, you don't get it." I said, pinching the bridge of my nose.
"Calm down, babe." He chuckled, wrapping his arms around me.
I softly pushed him away, running a hand through my hair. "Could you leave?"
He raised his eyebrows at me as he took a step back.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that, I just want to be alone right now."
He nodded, pressing his lips against mine in a quick kiss before he left me alone. I sat on the couch as I ran a hand over my face.
I left him 2 years ago, standing alone and cutting him off. I didn't know how I would stand in front of him again.

I intertwined my fingers in front of me as I waited for Jason to call me in to meet Harry and his team. I was beyond nervous. Harry was the one person that I knew that I loved. That night before I left proved it to me, proved to me that he loved me too. And then I left, I left everything.
"Your new tour manager is one of our best," Jason said as I pushed open the door, meeting Harry's eyes as they widened before looking away. "Madeline, this your new team."
I quickly shook all their hands before standing in front of Harry. "Harry, it's amazing to see you again."
I gave him a hug, my arms around his neck as he loosely hugged me back, not saying anything. He continued to look at me as if I weren't really standing there.
When his green eyes met him I knew right then, I knew that I was in trouble..again.
