Millie jogged to get on the school bus, the yellow glinting in the sun. She sat near the front with Noah, like always. "Hey!" He says. Millie smiled. "I wonder what today will be like?" Noah says, and Millie shrugs. He smiles and spaces out. So does Millie. She was glad that Noah seemed to understand her, even when she didn't talk. Noah had saved the window seat for Millie because he knew how that was her favorite spot. She loves it because while no one was talking, she loved to look out at the trees and green grass and the pretty blue sky's, and she liked to look down at the road, which was a blur. She and Noah sat in a comfortable silence until they bus screeched to a stop in front of the high school. Millie took a deep breath. This is it! She thought.
She noticed Finn sitting across from her, and that's who Noah was talking to. It's cool how Noah was friends with Millie, the quiet, shy girl, and Finn, the popular but nice guy. She looked over at him and their eyes met for a split second, a smile plastered on Finns face because of one of Noah's jokes. Millie looked away. For some reason she suddenly felt weird, like.... Like she couldn't help but smile when she looked at Finn, and she noticed even more how nice his smile was, how cute he was, how nice his hair was.... Oh. Did she have a crush on him?? She didn't know. Well, deep down she did know, but she didn't want to admit it to herself. Finn would never like her back. Sure, he's nice and one of Noah's friends and all, but he's too popular to like a girl like Millie. Maybe. Millie really didn't know, and decided to focus on getting off the bus, not on Finns gorgeous smile.... Stop it Millie! She told herself before hopping off the bus, to lost in her own thoughts to wait for Noah.

Millie found her locker and put her stuff in it and organized it a bit. Class didn't start for five minutes, so she had time. She saw Jo Jo strutting towards her out of the corner of her eye. Oh no, she thought. "Hey mouse!" She said. She called Millie mouse because she was so quiet. Millie continued to organize he locker, trying to ignore Jo Jo. Jo Jo kicked her locker hard and some books fell out. "Oh, whoops!" Jo Jo said mockingly. It obviously wasn't a mistake. Millie bent down to pick up her books and put them back. "Why aren't you talking to me Millie? Oh right. You can't!" That's when tears began to form in Millie's eyes. She hit the soft spot. She tried to say something, but her mouth just hung open. Her throat clenched, her heart pounded, her hands got sweaty. It was like her voice was trapped in the pit of her stomach, unable to come out. Jo Jo laughed menacingly. Millie knew the best way to deal with a bully was to ignore them, but she couldn't help the tears from rolling down her face. She wipes them away, but realized with horror that she had smeared her mascara. Jo Jo laughed even harder. Millie heard a voice saying: "leave her alone Jo Jo!" Jo Jo rolled her eyes, but left Millie. Millie expected to see Noah, but with a twist in her stomach, she saw Finn. He smiled at her. She smiled back, her way of saying thanks. Noah must have told Finn about her, cause he seemed to understand how she didn't talk. Finn liked Millie anyway. She was so nice and pretty. Millie starts to walk to the girls bathroom to wash her face off. "Hey Millie!" Finn calls. She turns. He hands her a piece of paper. "Text me." He says with a smile. Millie gives a shy smile and nods, and Finn is gone.
