"You like banana muffins?" Dan asked, his mouth full of the bread.

"Um of course?" Kyle laughed to himself, catching the muffin Dan threw across the room.

"If you don't mind me asking, but where's your father?"

He couldn't help but feel like he was invading Kyle's life, but he couldn't help his curiosity. Growing up it has gotten him into trouble on numerous occasions.

"He's back in London. I wish I could've stayed with him if I'm going to be honest." Kyle sighed, putting down the xbox controller.

"Why?" Dan shoved another muffin in his mouth, watching as Kyle did the same.

"He's, uh a lot like me I guess in some aspects. Real quiet, but when he speaks you can't hold in your laugh. I think Elise thought that she could change him, and then when it failed their marriage failed." He sighed, chewing the muffin in his mouth. It felt nice to talk about his parents. Back in London he never had the possibility from the lack of close friends. Of course he had a few from the book club his mother had made him join, but the only thing they had in common was the mutual hate for book club.

"What do you mean?" Dan was confused: he couldn't seem to grasp the fact of changing another person.

"She told me that for a while she didn't mind his nerdy-ness, but after they had me she couldn't stand it. It's kind of funny though, because when you look at him, he looks like the complete opposite." Kyle then grabbed his backpack, and got out his wallet.

"See." He handed the picture to Dan, watching as he examined it.

In the picture was a tattooed man holding a little Kyle on his shoulders. The man's arms were covered completely in tattoos, and he could tell that there were some on his torso from where his shirt had raised.

And just like Kyle had said, Dan would've never guessed he was "nerdy".

"I just want to live with him. Dan he gets me." Kyle sighed, looking at the picture. He couldn't help but feel the sadness hit. His mother was awarded full custody.

Once Kyle's mother made it announced she wanted a divorce, he went off the deep end. He would stay out all night drinking, steal the family's car for days on end, and pull Kyle out of school for no reason.

In the eyes of the court he was unfit to raise a child, much less an impressionable teenager.

The court didn't get to see the side that taught him to read, they didn't see the countless hours the two spent in front of the television watching reruns of The Addams Family, or the way he would allow Kyle to pic a tattoo and then he would tell him the story behind it.

"I just want to see him, he was my best friend."
