Chapter four
The next morning I woke up sore, yet it was livable. To Jason though it was not livable to him, I could move and such I would not tell him how I got sore, I told him it was how I was sleeping. It was our last night of being down the shore, deep down I was sad I was leaving, why? I could visit the shore anytime I live close enough. And I’ve been down the shore millions of times, why is this time so different? My thoughts kept going back to Randy, when I’m near him, I feel…free. I don’t feel tense. Every time I think of Randy, I feel sad, I’ll be here always but he won’t.
Jason wanted me to go to the show tonight with him. As much as Jason wanted me to go, I just couldn’t sit there again.
“Come on, Randy will be there!” Leo teased me.
“Stop…” I grumbled.
“Leo…” Jason said sternly. “What you see the way he looks at her…and the other night you could’ve sworn he was asking for Emily.” I perked up, Randy was asking for me? I should go tonight maybe, no, if I do I’ll give in to Leo’s suspsion and he’ll never let it go.
“Eh, watch it from the room tonight, order some room service or something kiddo” Jason said, giving me a smile of understanding. I smiled back, crawling back under the covers. We went on the boardwalk to eat and go on the rides. As old as we are, we will always find time for the rides and that is something I can’t wait to do.
“No! No! Double Shot!” Leo shouted, as we tilted our heads up watching the giant ball shoot up in the air. Every year they try to get me on the ride, it is the only ride I have never gone on.
“Come on, Emily I’ll go on with ya” Jason would always say. It was never a comfort.
“Come on, Em…how about I go on with you?” Randy asked, coming from behind me. He wore dark blue jeans and a black shirt with a snake on it. Suddenly I wanted to go on, the thrill that Randy was here had to be let out.
Without an argument, Randy and I went on the ride. I was still nervous and I was forcing myself on the ride.
“See man, I told ya there is something going on with the Viper and our sister” said Leo.
“Shut up; man” Jason said, “He’s a nice guy that’s all…what can he possibly have in common with our naïve sister”
I sat in the chair facing the sky, awkwardly sitting next to Randy, trying to stop my heart from beating too fast.
“You ok?” Randy asked, looking over at me.
“Yeah, it’s just…this ride doesn’t settle right with me” I said nervously.
Randy chuckled, “Hey, don’t worry I got your back…” he said, softly. I smiled, hearing the hissing noise; the ride was going to begin.
The force of the air was suddenly on my chest like a ton of bricks, I had no chance of catching my breath; I can only hold it. I was afraid to open my eyes that the pressure would force my eyes into my sockets. I screamed, yet realizing a smile was on my face. My hands did not let go of the safety bars as I grasp them tightly; digging my nails into the foam, chipping my polish.
“Open your eyes, Emily!” Randy screamed. “Open your eyes!” slowly I opened them and saw the sky flip up and down and the ocean in the air.
“WOO!” Randy screamed, his deep voice seemingly calming to me and yet overwhelming, making me scream as loud as him. My hands went into the air and I felt as if I was flying. I was flying with Randy.
