Stella's Pov:

It was still the beginning of my freshman year in high school and I was not excited about it at all. The only real friend I had was Lucus, though he has a lot of friends in the higher grades, he never introduced me to them. He has only told me stories of them. I still don't know how he can just go up to someone and know they will somehow get along. I always knew he was pretty extroverted, but still, and why all the "rejects."

So far, I hated it so much. Everybody judging you just for not having friends, what you wear, your hair, almost everything that I was self conscious about. It's why I wear make-up most of the time, to hide the acne I have under the foundation.

I wasn't excited at all for today, it was another Monday. Nobody likes Mondays! I was walking down the road my house was on to the bus stop. It was at the end of the road so it was kinda far. So I got out my mp3 player to listen to some music. Though, right before I put in an ear bud I heard a very faint "mew. ."

I turned towards the bushes beside the road on the other side of a ditch(for water, it's not actually a really bid ditch) and looked for what made the noise. I started to walk away, then heard the sound again! That's when I put away my mp3 player then put down my bookbag and started searching through the bushes.

Soon enough while I was searching and rusting through the bushes, I found a tiny kitten. I gently picked it up and held it. It didn't have a collar and it looked really beat up. I brought it back to my bookbag and started to look though it for my phone. I finally found it, I was going to call my mom to get it to keep it, but it was dead! CURSES THESE STUPID PHONES.

So, I then had a very stupid idea. I'm going to bring. . . her?? to school. I then picked the kitten up again and turned her over to see that yes, it is a she. Anyways, I gently held her while walking to the bus stop. She seemed really sleepy.

It was still pretty early in the morning so I got to the bus stop on time. I hid the kitten in my jacket while on the bus so that nobody can hurt her. She seemed damaged enough.

~~Time Skip~~

It was Lunch time now, so we could go anywhere on the campus to eat. Normally me and Lucus would eat somewhere outside on a bench or something. When I met up with him that day, he brought a friend I didn't know about. "Hey Stella, this is Dustin." Lucus introduced me to him. "Hey!" I said shyly giving a small wave. He smiled awkwardly.

"Hey Lucus, you won't believe what I found on the side of the road this morning." I said stopping the silence. "The way you said that makes me not want to know." He replied. "I'd like to know!" Dustin said in a excited-ish voice. I smiled and unzipped my jacket to reveal a very small scottish fold munchkin kitten. I looked up what she was in the library on the computer before a class started.

Dustin's mouth was dropped and Lucus's eyes widened at the sight of a cat, on school grounds. I was hiding the kitten inside my jacket and whenever she meowed or made any kind of sound I just coughed or made an even bigger noise. I held the kitten up to Lucus and he gently took her with caution.

He held her by her cat arms and seemed as though he was never going to move again. Dustin started petting it's head and Lucus started tearing up. "Lucus what's wrong?" I asked concerned. "She's so cute I can't help it! Shut up!!" He snapped back.

Nobody else was outside on this side of the school so we were alone. We sat down on one of the benches and started eating our lunches. Though Lucus didn't eat much because he was so focused on the kitten instead of his own hunger. Dustin fed it some roast beef from his sandwich, she seemed really hungry. I don't know the last time she ate so who knows, it could have been days!

I took out all the meat from my sandwich and gave it to the kitten. She ate it with gratitude and happiness. She was on the concrete of the sidewalk and under the overhang of the school's roof. She then tried to go into the light and out of the shadow. Lucus then tried to grab her while he was sitting down, but she was quicker to run back to Dustin who was still sitting on the sidewalk as well(but away from Lucus on the other side of the bench)

~~Time Skip~~to the next class period~~

Before the class actually started and the teacher comes back from the bathroom, I put the kitten back in my jacket and started talking with Dustin. Apparently he was only a year older than me. "So what should we name the kitten, this entire time we've just called it The Kitten." he suddenly asked. I thought for a bit then suggested "how about Mittens!" I only suggested that because of her lighter front paws.

"I really like that name!" Lucus came out of nowhere and said. He must've came back from his locker. The teacher then came back and we went back to our seats, me on Lucus's right with Dustin on Lucus's left. After about 30 mins of him teaching Mitten's started to squirm around and meow. Lucus started to cough loudly and I started to slouch and hide the ruffling in my jacket.

The teacher turned around and asked "What was that?" he looked around the room but nobody answered.
