"Come" he reached out his hand to help me up.

We walked outside of the house, a cop car was parked across the street. The cop inside gave a gentle wave.

We began walking down the street and I couldn't help but notice the number of black SUVs parked everywhere. I looked around feeling nervous.

"They're here to protect you" He spoke, noticing my concern.

I stared into his eyes. They swirled with various colours, I remained fascinated with the colours mixing in them. Specks of black appearing until his eyes turned into the same black as his wolf's fur.

I screamed and moved back, away from him.

"Your eyes just changed colours" I breathed out, feeling out of breath.

He looked away from me, as if it pained him to look at me.

He looked back at me a few moments later, his eyes were emerald green again.

"Is it a wolf thing?"

He nodded.

"I have a lot of.. enemies. I've killed without giving it a second thought, I've given into my wolf more times than I can count, not because I cannot control him, but because this is who and what I am" He spoke quietly, walking without looking at me.

"What killed my parents and why?"

We walked to a park and sat on a bench, watching little kids with their parents.

"An enemy, because you are.. " he rested his elbows on his knees and looked down to the ground "wolves have mates" he looked at me expecting me to know. Lucky for him, I've read my fair share of books to know exactly what he meant.

I looked out at the parents with their kids. All of those kids still had their parents. Mine were taken because he's my mate.

"You're the reason my parents are dead" I whispered lightly. I should be happy, never in a million years did I think that the fictional characters from my books really did exist. Now, knowing that they did and that I was the mate of one.. didn't bring me any joy, instead I felt angry. Angry because this mate of mine is the reason my parents are dead.

He disappeared after a few minutes and then felt someone else sit down in his spot.

Mia.. I hugged her and let my tears free. "Mia.." I cried "they're gone"

"Shh" Mia cooed, trying to calm me. "It's going to be ok" she brushed her fingers over my hair.

I eventually ran out of tears, too exhausted to even speak, I sat leaning against Mia's shoulder.

We sat quietly with our thoughts.

"Ara.. I'm a werewolf too"

Shock, betrayal, and confusion filled my mind as I shifted and looked at my best friend.

Mia.. a werewolf?

"I can explain" she tried to reach for me.

I turned and ran.

Slamming the door shut I ran to my room and slumped against my closed bedroom door.

I had just lost my parents, and as if that wasn't enough, I found out that werewolves exist, that I'm in danger, that I have a werewolf mate, and that my best friend was a werewolf too.

It was too much.

ding

My phone vibrated. I looked at the several notifications I had received. Messages, missed calls, tags in posts.. news of my parents death.

As I looked at my phone, I got a new message from Mia...

[Mia: I couldn't tell you, I was under strict orders by your parents..]

My parents, this entire time they knew and they never told me anything. My dad was a werewolf, and I didn't even have the slightest clue. Maybe this is why I always healed faster than everyone else?

-

It was almost dark out, I didn't know if the Alpha and Mia were downstairs or not. If they were, they were deathly quiet.

If it wasn't for my hunger, I would have never left the room. I made my way downstairs to find Mia and the Alpha sitting at the dinner table, their eyes snapped to mine.

Mia smiled politely, while the Alpha kept a hard gaze on me. I broke eye contact and walked into the kitchen. I opened the fridge to find leftover mashed potatoes that mom made, and the tears were back but I kept them at bay, not letting them fall.

Mom was the best cook. I shut the fridge, serving myself a bowl of just mashed potatoes.

I turned around to find the Alpha standing there. I took the bowl to my room and only had a spoon of potatoes before I rushed to the washroom and got sick, emptying the contents from my stomach into the toilet. I wiped my mouth with toilet paper and rinsed my mouth.

Feeling suddenly tired, I went to bed and fell asleep.

-

I woke up when my bedroom light was turned on.

I rubbed my eyes, getting up and looking at him.

"You're coming with me" He said, throwing a duffel bag by my bed. I look at it and then him.

"No" My response was immediate. "I just lost my family, I will not lose my home too" I gripped the bed sheets tightly.

He snarled "It's not safe for you here, you live away from the closest pack house. If you're surrounded by wolves, you'll be safer"

"Why can't you guard this house?" I asked confused

He walked towards me and sat down on my bed, the bed dipped with his weight. He raised his hand, this time though he put his hand through my hair and brought me closer to his face.  His touch sent tingles over my skin, where he touched me.

"Our enemies don't use doors to attack, they appear out of thin air - pack homes are much safer, they're guarded with magic" He spoke softly

His eyes turned black "I want to give you space, to mourn, to deal with your emotions, to accept me on your own terms" He nuzzled the side of my neck, inhaling lightly a few times.

All traces of my hate for him momentarily disappeared with his touch.

He moved back to look at my face "I need you to come with me love, or my wolf will go wild. If he takes over, I won't be able to stop myself from claiming you - with or without your consent"

I closed my eyes as our heads rested together. his hand circled around my neck lightly.

Mia walked in startling us both and earning herself a growl from Damien.

Mia bowed in respect, keeping her gaze on the floor. "I was trying to mind-link you Your Majesty, but I was not able to get through, I apologize. The Redsnow pack is ready for us when you are."

Mia looked up to meet my eyes before leaving.

Damien's green eyes swirled with flecks of black and gold. He stood up and walked out without looking back.

I sat there for a while.

More notifications on my phone, condolences from people that barely knew me. It was past midnight.. and I couldn't help but think why me?

He is the reason for my heartache. I need him to tell me about the prophecy and how it connects to me and my parents.
