Chapter 30

BLAKE

I lifted up my shirt as Doctor Mac examined my chest for a low-key check up.

"So," Doctor Mac started as he poked around, taking note of my heart rate and making a rough diagram of the extent of the damage done to my chest, "I heard that you and Elissa are making progress?"

I rose my eyebrows in surprise but couldn't fight the smile that seemed to be plastered on my face since last night, "How'd you know?"

Doctor Mac looked up from his clipboard where he had been writing his notes and gave me a knowing smile, "You just told me."

I scoffed but still couldn't even turn down the corners of my mouth in order to even appear slightly serious. I shook my head thinking about my lovely mate before turning back to the doctor, "How are we?"

Doctor Mac sighed and knitted his eyebrows together, and just like that, my smile faded.

"You have what appears to be third degree burns surrounding your entire right pectoral that seems to be spreading outwards," He set his clipboard down on the bed I was sitting in and crossed his arm, "Unfortunately, because you're a werewolf and we're designed with strong connections to our soulmates, rejection is just as much a physical weakness as it is a mental one. Luckily however, because you're an Alpha these scars heal almost immediately as they manifest. This may explain the itching and burning pain you feel everyday, but I would encourage you to try to resist scratching at it and try to spend as much time with Elissa as possible," he paused and frowned, "How is your mental health?"

I shrugged looking away from Doctor Mac and, almost instinctually, I started scratching my chest, "Fine really."

I looked back at Doctor Mac as he grabbed my hand, stopping me from scratching before I had even realized what I was doing, "Yeah okay I don't buy that."

I sighed and threw my hands up in the air, "Well, I can't sleep without playing that night over and over in the back of my mind, I can barely do my work because all I do is think about her, and every night I stand outside her bedroom door just to be close to her in ways that I can't be during the day, and, probably most annoyingly," I shook my head and ran my fingers through my hair, "All Ryan wants to do is run to her and mark her."

Doctor Mac nodded while picking up the clipboard, flipping through some documents, and nodded again, "Well, I can tell you that this is completely normal," He looked back at me and set the clipboard down once more, "But that doesn't mean it doesn't suck," He walked next to a nearby counter and pulled a chair while facing me with his arms crossed again, "Thankfully, Elissa seems to be warming up to you..."

I sighed, "But..."

"But," Doctor Mac started and sighed again, "The depth of the scar tissue around your chest tells a different story."

I nodded and pulled my shirt back on before I tried to massage the tension out from the back of my neck.

"Blake, this is becoming a very serious issue. Even if Elissa is becoming more friendly you just don't have that time. Now, I'm not telling you to rush things in fact, that will probably make things worse with Elissa. But, the beginnings of a potential relationship are just..." He paused and scratched the back of his neck, "Well frankly, it doesn't heal a broken heart let alone a rejection. Ryan's need to mark Elissa is slowly becoming less of a desire to fulfill the mate bond and more of an impulse that might endanger Elissa and yourself."

I widened my eyes and gulped, "Does that mean-"

"That means you're becoming rouge Blake."

I let out a chilling breath and let my head fall. What am I going to do? What about my pack? What about Elissa?
