Louis stood with a shocked expression. The door was held wide open, the cool air entering the home. Louis kept his attention to that one guy he thought he'd never see again—Steve.
"I know this is pretty shocking, but may I come in?" Steve asked.
Louis so badly wanted to slam the door shut on his face and yell at him for leaving him, but that was in the past and he's no longer angry at him for leaving.
He let the lad come inside, when he shut the door behind him, Steve stood there awkwardly unaware where to start.
"Um..." Steve said. "I apologize for coming uninvited, I just figured if I gave you a call you wouldn't answer."
Louis motioned towards the couches. Steve took a seat next to Louis who still couldn't wrap this situation in his mind.
Everything was just getting better. He'd finally expressed his feelings to Harry that felt the same way. He was getting a raise at his job, a baby is on the way, he was finally happy.
Of course something wrong was going to happen. Of course Steve would show up after a year of disappearing. This was his chance for an explanation after all.
"Why'd you come here, Steve?" Louis finally asked.
Steve sighed, "I wanted to apologize."
"I don't need an apology."
"Yes you do," Steve said. "I was a coward."
Louis got up from the couch and tugged on his hair, "stop."
"Loui-"
Louis shook his head, "no, I don't need your stupid apology."
Steve frowned, "Lou, I just need to explain myself to you."
"Please."
Louis sighed in defeat, "fine."
"I found the ring in the dresser, Louis," Steve said. "I was so excited and I was feeling so emotional."
"I thought to myself that I will finally marry the guy that I love so much, but then I couldn't," Steve said.
"I couldn't because three years of us being together wasn't enough. I needed more time, I needed to feel independent."
Louis scoffed, "could've just spoke with me, Steve."
"Please listen," Steve said. "I didn't want to leave, but I panicked. I couldn't bare to see your face when I rejected your hand in marriage, I just couldn't do that to you."
"I know leaving also wasn't the answer, but I couldn't think of any other way. I regret it, I really do."
Louis frowned, "why are you really here, Steve?"
Steve sighed, "I want you back, Lou. I miss you—I miss us and I want to give it another try and I promise you that this time I won't run away, I'll talk to you."
Louis shook his head. He sat next to Steve who still had the glimmer of hope in his eyes.
"Why now, Steve? You could've come back earlier when everything was bad, but you didn't," Louis frowned.
