Brielle's P.O.V.

Addie's mouth fell open while I snorted.

"Yeah right, and I'm the Queen," I laughed.

In my defense, I was still in a bad mood. The man (Dad????) took a step back. He looked a little scared, so I relented.

"Okay, so maybe you could be my dad," I said. "You do have my hair color."

The man came forward and sat down cautiously. "I know you probably hate me, but I heard about you on the news. I knew it was you."

"How, exactly, did you know it was me?" I asked. "I thought you ran out on us."

He winced. "Well, I did, but I was around when you were born. I knew your name and I knew your brother. He was four when you were born."

"So you heard?" I asked.

He nodded. "I heard that they think that you killed James. Honestly, I think that their so called trial is a load of bullshit. They don't have anything against you. All they want is to scare you into confessing, but you can't confess anything, can you?"

"No," I said. "I'm totally innocent."

"And that boyfriend, he didn't really help, did he?" he asked.

I scowled. "Can we not talk about him please?"

He raised his hands in surrender. "I'm just discussing your case."

"Okay," Addie butted in. "Not to be rude or anything, but why show up now? Why not earlier?"

"Good question," I frowned and sat back, crossing my arms.

He sighed. "Okay, when you were born, I was twenty-five. I'd already had a kid, and I thought another one would be too much. And honestly, I wasn't in love with your mother anymore. I still loved her, but I wasn't in love with her anymore. I did the only thing I could think of-I left. After a couple years, I started missing you and the rest of your family. I tried to find you, but I had no idea what to look for. I couldn't find you until now."

"And then you found out James was dead," I said.

"Yes," he bowed his head. "And I missed out on twenty years of his life. Twenty years I will never get back, and I won't get any more time."

I felt bad for the guy. I actually believed he was my dad, as his story matched up with what my mom had told me. Plus, he was actually sincere. I could tell.

"Alright," I said, leaning forward. "Tell me more."

Niall's P.O.V.

I sat on my couch, bottle in hand, leaning towards the TV. The morning news were going over Brielle's case and discussing if she was innocent or not.

"Okay, so I think she's innocent," one man said. "They really have no proof that she was there."

"They have no proof that she wasn't there either," another man countered. "Really, I could see this going either way."

She's innocent! I wanted to yell. I was just angry at her!

"What about those witnesses?" the first man asked.

"I think we should go to our law specialist, Mr. Harry Chino," the second man said, turning to the screen, where a man had just appeared. "Thanks for joining us, Mr. Chino."

Mr. Chino nodded. "I'm happy to be here," he said.

"So do you think those witnesses were any good?" the first man asked.

"I think most of them were duds," Mr. Chino answered. "They didn't have any real strong statements about if she was there or not. Plus, the fact that some of them said that the brother screamed and others didn't really didn't help prove anything."
