Kakashi Hatake was stuck in his own dream.
Sayuri Hatake was stuck in hers.
...---...
She found herself walking in a barren field. The moon was high in the sky, surrounded by stars in a dark sky. She marveled at the sight.
She spun in a slow circle, looking for any sign of someone other than herself being here.
And not too far away was a campfire. She found two figures sitting on a log in front of the fire, conversing.
One started shouting at the other.
He sounded too much like her brother, for some reason.
Sayuri steered herself away from the sight, deciding it was not her business, nor her right to intrude. So, she walked around the field, searching for at least something.
But a dream was for a reason, and it definitely wasn't for her to walk around aimlessly throughout a field. Soon, she found herself deep into a forest, intimidated by the towering trees surrounding her. She kept her eyes peeled open, in case anything threatening approached her.
The farther she went from the field, the more the shouts of the two people by the campfire faded away. She was thankful for that, because otherwise she would have went back to eavesdrop (she couldn't help it, she was curious).
"Sayuri!" That voice snapped her out of her thoughts, and she cursed herself for not paying attention to her surroundings.
"Who are you?" She asked, as loud and confident as she could muster. "How do you know my name?"
A chuckle was heard, and Sayuri classified the voice was a woman. She was old enough to be her mother.
And she was, in fact, her mother.
"I'm not surprised for you to forget me. I'm your mother."
...---...
Some point at midnight, Sayuri Hatake's heart rate sped up. It alerted some of the nurses, but found that they couldn't do anything; she was in her own dream.
Kakashi Hatake woke up as the last nurse left the room, muttering under her breath that the little girl worried us for no reason.
He watched as Sayuri Hatake's heart monitor sped up, before slowing down once more.
What are you dreaming about?
...---...
"You're my mother?" It was true; the woman before her matched the photograph Sayuri kept. "You're...prettier in person."
It was all Sayuri managed to spit out as she was near-speechless. And yet, her shocked stupor managed to make the woman chuckle once more. The chuckle was light and relaxing and it sounded like a home Sayuri had never been to before.
