Imagine: Getting rejected by Reggie.
"So... I was thinking about prom," I begin, watching my best friend Reggie turn to smirk at me.
"Oh yeah? And who are you going with?"
"No one. Not yet at least. But that got me thinking about you. I know we're only friends but recently I've maybe started thinking about you another way? Anyway, would you go to prom with me?" I beam, holding out a football-themed cupcake I'd bought earlier.
"No," he says, looking away, "Y/N I don't think about you in that way. I'm sorry".
Reggie watches my face quietly but I'm too humiliated to speak. I turn and walk away quickly, throwing my lame prom proposal in the garbage as I go.
