It had been a long year. A long year of pretending to be someone that she wasn't. A long year of sharing a bed with a man who had killed her father. He had told her it was her father who had died after she had been with him for three months and he was sure that she wasn't acting. Jackson had been lovely with her for the most part even agreeing to her terms that they shouldn't have sex before they were married. That it was better to wait.
Other times, he was a monster. He'd given her more bruises that she could count. But he was also so apologetic. Whenever he had hurt her badly, he would always shower her with gifts. The gifts made the beatings worth it. After six months, he started allowing Paige small freedoms such as leaving the house for small periods of time. She used that time to visit pawn shops, raising money for when she finally escaped.
Paige would always say that she had lost the gifts which Jackson found quite endearing. Silly, clumsy, forgetful Paige. It couldn't be further from the truth. She had taken advantage of her time with Jackson, full advantage. Not only had she raised a small fortune, she had convinced Jackson that it was a good idea for her to learn how to handle herself. It didn't take long to convince him and she realised she had quite a skill for it - especially shooting.
Every night she would dream of Jimin, without exception. Some days she wished that he would rescue her, other days she just wanted to bring her escape forward and go and find him - wherever he may be. Jackson only ever mentioned Jimin when he was beating her. He called her derogatory names and alluded to her time with Jimin. In those moments, she closed herself off, thinking back to the last words he had spoken to her.
Today was her wedding day. She was filled with nerves because more importantly - it was the day of her escape. She'd waited a whole year for this moment. Paige was in an off-shot room at the hotel, getting herself ready under the watchful eye of one of Jackson's thugs. She hated him. He always stared a little bit too long, held you that little bit too tight. The nicer you were with him though, the more he let you get away with - that you'd learned with time.
Paige's wedding was taking place at night, enough time for all of Jackson's family to get in from Hong Kong. Jackson had finally agreed to Seoul, her own city, after she had made him feel bad that she wouldn't be able to have any of her own family in attendance. Once she was dressed, she checked the time. She had an hour before she was due to be married. It had to be soon. She had to get out of there soon before Jackson arrived, otherwise everything was for nothing.
"May I have a moment to myself outside? I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and emotional." She asked the tank of a man who was sitting staring at her from the corner of the room. His lip curled and she could hear the 'no' already. She immediately approached him, her fingertips brushing his arm ever so slightly as her eyes met his. "I just need five minutes to ready myself. I'd hate to disappoint Jackson after he'd waited all this time..."
His stance changed as his eyes trailed down the diamond studded bodice of her dress. She felt uncomfortable but held herself steady. "Please." She fluttered her eyelashes, slowly. He sighed, opening the door for her.
