"Mathew look out!" A shout from his wife had him spinning to his right, just in time to see a spider sprinting towards him, quickly pulling the trigger he unloaded his shotgun into the head of the spider, it did nothing against its hard exoskeleton, the click of the barrel signaled it was empty, quickly cracking it open with shaking hands Mathew pushed two more rounds in and snapped it shut, just has the spider open its mouth Mathew fired, blowing its mouth off with half its jaw, acidic spit flew from its mouth hitting the asphalt bobbling with popping sounds.

Suddenly an electronic wire sparks flying came swinging from his right towards him, jumping backwards he barely missed it from hitting him. Glancing in the direction it came from, several spiders were pushing against the streetlight pole, grating metal with concrete breaking had him running and diving to his left, his skin scraping against the ground, he rolled out the way has the streetlight came crashing down a few feet away from his head, its bulb shattering and letting loose a string of sparks.

The spiders had toppled the pole and were now rushing towards him, with no more bullets there was nothing more he could do, rising to his knees he watched has they got closer, he just wishes he could have done more to protect Sally, a flash of light from his left caught his eyes, tires squealed has the SUV made a sharp turnaround missing the downed pole, the right side of its bumper denting from hitting a spider sending it sprawling.

"Get in!" Kurt said as Jane open the door, staggering to his feet Mathew turn to get Sally but she was already beside him, grabbing his upper arm and running towards the cruiser, with a hard shove she sent him across the backseat, slamming the door shut behind them just as a spider came running towards it crashing into the door, screaming sally push the lock on the door.

Flooring the pedal with tiers squealing and glancing in his mirrors, Kurt breathed a sigh of relief after two more turns they had lost them, slowing down so they wouldn't get in a reck, he ask looking back at the two people in the backseat "ok would one of you mind telling us just what the hell was all of those?" He looked from the wide eyes of the young blond woman to the bruised up young man, with brown hair and a mop of mustache across his upper lip looking like a caterpillar.

"Well what were they?" He asked again "we don't know, we just came in last night to visit my grandparents, my grandmother was too sick to make the usual summer trip up to Michigan, so we came looking for them instead" the woman answered while wringing the bottom of her shirt. "When did this start?" Jane ask in a soft voice the last thing she wants is the poor woman going into shock, a quick look at the man told her he would need some more time to recover. The large red bruise forming on his forehead would make it a bit longer, he most have hit his head when he was shoved into the back.

"This evening I think, grandpa was around back with Mathew tying down all the equipments and packing them up in the tool shed, there was freak storm reports going on..." Kurt spoke "wait what I didn't see anything about storms on the news this morning, partly cloudy with light showers yes but nothing about storms." She looked from Jane to him with a slightly annoyed expression for being interrupted by him.

"Sorry please continue" Kurt said "the weather changed about midday, light showers has you say started from last night it was extremely cloudy too, we couldn't see any stars I remember feeling quiet bummed about it, because both of us wanted to watch the asteroids has they passed earth, but the clouds would make it impossible. So we decided to just drive straight here rather than stopping at any of our favorite spots to do so."

"By the time I woke up this morning grandpa and Mathew were already outside packing up all the garden tools with some other things, because of the long drive I'd slept longer than I normally do, so it was closer to midday than actual morning, I walked into the living room grandma was watching the Tv, that's when I saw all the crazy weather reports, clouds had covered more than half the country's states temperatures were dropping in some, while rising in others and they didn't know what to make of it, not to mention the clouds were changing looking more like a hurricane." Sally said

Jane spoke "it was pretty surprising to see the sky looking like that, my first impression was that of a hurricane, but still for a storm to come out of nowhere and cover more than half the country that's kind of hard to swallow."

"Really hard to swallow are you forgetting our little friends back at the park and these new ones not too long ago, at this point I'd believe deers farting rainbows if someone told me so" Kurt said.

"Friends back at the park?" The question was asked by the young man in the back, who Kurt now knew was known as Mathew, looking at him from the mirror Kurt answered "yeah there's a reason why we were asking you both what those things attacking you were, its because that's the first time we've seen them. By the way I'm Kurt and this is Jane, from what your... glancing quickly at the woman with her hands holding his, Kurt spot the ring and continued speaking, wife told us your Mathew," he gave Kurt a nod confirming it, and introduce his wife "this is Sally"

"Nice to meet you Sally, Mathew wish it was under better circumstances" Jane said leaning back to shake both there hands. "Like wise" Mathew said looking between her and Kurt he asked "how is it you guys don't know about this being the police, someone must have called in about it, I'm pretty sure Sally did, didn't you sals."

"No actually I didn't get to, when I heard you shouting and grandpa screaming I ran towards the back yard where you guys were I barely remembered to grab the shotgun over the kitchen door with the extra box of bullets on top of the fridge."

"What time did this happen" Kurt asked "they both looked at each other before Mathew spoke "I'm not sure around 6:00, 6:30 it was getting dark quickly because of the storm, and the wind was picking up, so we decided to just move all of the more important things into the shed and call it a day. That's when the noise started we heard screams and then a car ran smack into a house across the street, I was just about to go help when old man Wilson gave out a sheik from behind me, spinning around I saw one of those spider looking things with...it had its mouth locked around his head....one of his legs was g-gone..." Mathew swallowed the lump in his throat has the horrible memory came back, of a man he considered a second father to him.

Next to him Sally's body shook, and he could tell she was holding back her sobs, not wanting to break down in front of complete strangers, pulling her closer he pressed her to his chest, while using his thumb to remove a silent tear running down her cheek, has bad has it was for him it was even worse for her. She lost more than just grandparents, she lost the two people who lovingly raised her like a daughter.
