Earth the beginning of the fall

Chapter 14

Earlier:

Henry had being inside his shop working on a rather troublesome car all day, mumbling to himself "this is the last time I let a pretty face cause me so much pain, just why did I say I could have it all done in three days."

"Because your a sucker for damsels in distress," a voice answered his self asked question, sliding out from underneath the car Henry looked up at the owner of the voice his young part time assistant Marcus, "shouldn't you be off somewhere today or do you love me so much you'll spend even your day off with me."

    "That's me old man, couldn't go a day without seeing that grizzly looking face of yours," with a grin on his face he looks around before looking back down at Henry "so..where do you want me to start."

"How about that girl you were telling me about..shouldn't you be asking her out it's the weekend Marcus, hang out with your friends, do something fun that kids your age do."

"I am doing something fun I love working on cars. In a low whisper he finished, besides I don't have any friends anyway."

Looking at Marcus he sighed, "give me a hand boy" with the help of Marcus he got to his feet, with a grunt he stretches hearing his back pop. Handing his wrench over to Marcus, "fine if you call working on cars fun you might as well help me finish this one, I'm gonna take 15 in the office call me if you finish before then."

"Sure thing Mr Henry." Leaving the kid to work Henry close the door on his office and fell into the chair behind his desk, leaning back so he could stretch his feet out. He took a deep breath, trying to relax and loosen the kinks in his muscles, breathing out he closes his eyes and took another breath.

Henry came to with a start, looking around wildly not knowing what the problem was, for a few moments he was confused before he recognized his office. Damn I fell asleep, getting up and walking towards the door he opens it getting ready to apologize to Marcus, knowing the kid he probably came into the office caught henry sleeping and left with out waking him, it wouldn't be the first time he did that.

The turned over car and broken lights sparking electric from the ceiling was the first sign that something was wrong, walking forward In shock he stares at the state of his work shop, a splash beneath his feet had him looking down, noticing the small red puddle he now stood in with the red line of drag marks leading from it, to the back of the car were a hand could be seen sticking out from the other side laying on the ground next to it.

Moving has fast has he could Henry rushed towards where Marcus lay, has he rounded the back of the car he came face to face with the biggest spider he has ever seen, it was bent over with its mouth wrapped around Marcus's head.

Screaming in fright, without a second thought he delivers a vicious kick to the head of the spider, the impact of his foot connecting with the hard exoskeleton of the spider sent pain shooting through is leg and into his hips.

The snap of bone breaking could be heard has the spider staggered backwards from the kick, lifting Marcus two feet off the ground before his body came crashing back down without a head.

             Present moment

    Henry had thought that what happened earlier was the worst possible thing he could have ever witness well he was wrong, over the past few hours taught him so. Even now he still couldn't believe he made it out his work shop alive. Running and hiding that's about all he's been doing since he got outside, to see the shit had hit the fan literally and with out warning.

Every religion and their end of days doom and gloom got it all wrong, there's definitely no fire and brimstone in this one. He thought, movement across the street atop the bar roof caught his eye, he had completely forgotten about what he had saw before he had ran for the dumpster, come to think of it that was the main reason he had ran for cover.

     It's one of those things that you only see in movies, why, well because actual people or most actual people can't do shit like that even if their life's depended upon it, so when he saw someone running up the street like the devils hot on their tail, well he knew something was wrong, raising his hand he was about to wave to get their attention.

When said person dashed across the street over to Karl's bar, jumping onto the hood of a parked car there, then climbing onto its roof, jumping from there onto the pole holding the bar's name sticking from its front wall, with amazing skill before the pole could bend or break from their weight, Henry watches in awe as the person swing onto the awning that bounced them upward in the air with just the amount of leverage to grab hold of the roofs ledge, and after a few moments pulled their self over it.

It was after that he had saw the other person running up the street towards him and with out much thought to it he had ran for the dumpster beside the restaurant taking the person with him, only after they were hidden behind the dumpster and it's over flow of garbage on the ground did he realize the person with him was a teenage girl.

But before he could ask her anything running footsteps had caught his attention, and the rest you already know. So now he was stuck behind a dumpster with two kids one he was pretty sure was the chief of police son the other looked familiar but he wasn't sure yet who's kid, looking back across the street to the roof top of the bar he could see the person up there had moved.

Looking over the ledge every few seconds, however their movement stopped at the left side of the roof looking down at something he couldn't see not without leaving the safety of where they were hidden, a few moments later the sound of a vehicle coming got his attention.

Shit if those things caught this vehicle the same way they did those trucks it's game over for whoever is inside.

Without another thought or the risk to himself, Henry got up "you two stay quiet and don't move I'll be right back" he whispers while making his way from behind the dumpster and its bags of garbage on the ground, moving quickly has the sound of the vehicle got closer.
