Earth the beginning of the fall

Chapter 26

Sage climbed over the hood of  a car, the highway was packed with smashed vehicles, the seen before her could paint the narrative of what had happened, cars were covered in blood with their doors torn off. From what she could see there was no way around the accident, they were blocked in on the merging lane.

"How's it look kid?" Henry ask "not good, there's no way around with our vehicles" walking in Henry's direction she climbs over a few cars to get around the truck head, one shifts lightly beneath her feet before she hops off landing next to him.

"Unless there's another road we can take, we'll have to walk from here until we find a usable car." Sage said, Sighing Henry scratches the beard on his cheek "well let's see what the chief thinks" he said turning back to the car, Sage followed him while glancing back at the accident.

   "From the look on your face something tells me I'm not gonna like what you are about to say." Kurt said "that depends if you like the thought of walking from here, if not then you definitely won't. Roads blocked so it's either walk or turn around and find another way." Henry said.

   Mathew leaned out the window asking "couldn't we move one of the car closest to the shoulder and drive through?" Shaking her head, Sage answered Mathew's question before Henry could "not possible the car's are still attached to the truck's Hauler, even if we could get one moved there's a huge pileup on the other-side of it, our best chance is to use the stabler ones to crossover on the other-side, then find another working car or if there's another road we've passed that we could use other than this one, then we should probably use that."

   "Grab everything you lot can carry, we'll go over the wreckage." Kurt said "why? Can't we just turn around and find another road" Sally asked Kurt shook his head "no we can't, I don't think those aliens chasing us would have stopped just because they can't see us, both me and Jane had a run-in with those big ones at the park, they weren't in town when we got there all we saw were the spiders, yet they showed up after, so I think we can make a good guess that they my still be chasing after us and the longer we stay here the closer they get, so let's hustle people." He finished his speech and walked back to the S.U.V

   "Pop the trunk Jane, Mitch, Calvin, Kelly out and give me a hand." Grabbing the first bag of guns he tosses it to Mitch, then the second one to Calvin, he hand's one with ammo to Kelly then grabbed the last one.

   "What's going on?" Jane asked has she gets out the S.U.V "follow me I'll explain on the way." Curt replied has he leads them towards the accident.

Calvin reaches out and help's Kelly lifting her up from the hood of the car, Jane followed quickly sliding over the hood turning around she catches the bag Kurt tosses, he then tosses the rest over, Mitch, Mathew, and Henry each catching one before he hopped the hood and slides over.

Walking through the wreckage they look from car to car hoping they would see one that was usable, so far none seem to be in a working condition capable of carrying them.

"doesn't this look like more than just a typical accident?" Matthew asked "mhmm most of these cars look's like they were attacked before they crashed, their seems to be a lot of blood but nobodies an accident like this should definitely have some bodies, yet I've seen not a single one." Mitch chips in.

" The way I see it we ain't nothing short of a horror movie all that's left is the cameras" Henry said, he then coughs and spits a lump of cold to the side, it landed on a bloody door glass taking some of the blood with it has it streaks down the window beside Kelly. "Eww" she says walking fast to get away from Henry.

"Dad look!" Calvin said has he rushes off, Kurt turn to see Calvin sprinting towards a 4 x 4 pickup truck, the truck had somehow survived all of the damage but it seems the driver wasn't so lucky since it was missing its door and it's windshield was smashed, it had a large dent in it's hood and may not even start but it was the best one yet and out of the traffic, who knows maybe luck will be on their side.

Luck it seems was indeed on their side, it started has soon has Calvin turned the key. It was backed up almost as if the driver was trying to reverse and it hit the guard rail breaking through to the other side which was a lot less on traffic they could easily go between whatever cars were there and continue their journey yes this was the best chance they had of getting out of here.

"Real smart Calvin, just how are we all supposed to fit inside of that" Kelly said to herself unfortunately Sage overheard her mumbling's and responded "the smart part is that some of us will go into the cargo bed and not all of us will try to fit inside, that was pretty obvious from the start but I guess not everyone's smart enough to recognize it."

Sage walked off before Kelly could reply she didn't really care too much for what the redhead wanted to say or had to say, she just wanted to get the hell out of here and get to where she was going as soon as possible, The quicker she could get there faster she could leave these guys behind, she looks up at the dark sky where not a single star could be seen, and wonders how her grandfather was doing in France, it was very clear now that these things were extraterrestrial so it must be affecting all parts of the world, just what a day this turned out to be a visit to meet a uncle turned into a fight for her life, Sighing she shook her head and walked towards the pickup thinking I guess nothing's change it's about has dangerous has all the other things I'd had to do for grandpa, she hopped up in the cargo bed with a final thought what's going on in New York and how was Enzo and the others faring.
