I didn't know why my father had asked me to attend his meeting with the pagans. I actually didn't mind since I was rather curious about the legend himself, Ragnar Lothbrok. My father had invited them to see if they were interested to allies. King Godsworthof Sussex had been rather interested in ruling over Essex as well, much to my fathers disappointment. Essex were a slightly smaller kingdom in England yet it grew everyday.

I took a deep breath when the sound of out soldiers armory from outside, nearing the main hall. Many heavy steps echoed outside and soon the large doors opened and ten soldiers walked inside with five pagans. I squinted my eyes as I took a good look at them. Their black leather clothing, long hair and breads that some of the had braided and dirty rough skin. Soon my eyes met with a pair of icy blue ones. He stood in front of everyone else and I could only guess he was Ragnar Lothbrok.

My father stood from his chair as the guards took their usual positions by the walls, observing our guests moves.

"Welcome to the Essex Kingdom, Ragnar," My father, the king, said and gave the icy blue eyed man a nod. Ragnar gave my father a nod back before looking at me. Chills ran down my spine as it felt like he saw all my secrets. A smirk spread across his lips as I didn't look away. "Ragnar and friends of Ragnar, this is my daughter princess Y/N of Essex," I gave them a nod before taking a sip of wine. Ragnar's eyes still hadn't stopped giving me focus. I only raised my brow at him before placing my cup back on the table. Two men behind Ragnar said something in a foreign language to each other before laughing.

"Please take a seat and help yourself," My father said and pointed at the table filled with food and wine. My father sat down by the table and the rest joined. I threw my long wavy hair over my shoulders before taking a piece of chicken. The foreign men filled their plates as servants filled their cup. I rolled my eyes when a few of them mentally undressed the female servants. A sigh left my lips when I knew it would be a long day.

"I heard you had an offer for us James," Ragnar spoke for the first time after taking a sip of wine. I bit the inside of my cheek by the sound of his rough voice.

"Yes, I want you to fight for me," My father said casually and Ragnar chuckled a little.

"Is that so James? What are we getting in return?" Ragnar asked smirking, his eyes moved from my father to me before looking back at father.

"One fourth of the land we get and an equal amount of the riches found," Father said but I thought it sounded little. My father had never talked to these people and yes I knew a few things about the Northmen. They liked battle but the deal wasn't fair since they were scarifying human beings.

"You want me and my men fighting for you with that shitty offer. I thought you seemed like a smart man James," Ragnar said and it seemed like they were getting ready to leave. I bit my lip as I tried to think about what the monks had told me about the man by the table. They knew more about these people than my father.

"Fight for my father and you'll get one third of the land to farm, fuck or do whatever you pagans are doing when not battling, equal amount of silver and you will be handed a secret amount of money from our riches," I said and Ragnar sat back in his chair. His eyes were locked on mine and the rest of his men looked at me as well. Probably shocked that what they thought were a christian princess used foul language. "Plus if you farm on the land handed to you, your people living there are welcome to trade in our market," I added.

"One third?" Ragnar asked and I nodded.

"It's a one time offer, you're men are welcome to stay here until the fight and if not our men will pay you a visit," I said and Ragnar mumbled something to his men, some of them nodding.

"Deal," Ragnar said and I smirked.

All Ragnar's men had arrived yesterday. My father had also expressed how good I handled Ragnar and his men. It felt nice to get some recognition from him. Not that I usually did divine things or so but I had helped the commander with battle plans before. Last night my father, the commander with Ragnar and his five men had talked about battle plans. I had joined and told some ideas of my own which Ragnar seemed to appreciate. The commander even said it seemed like Ragnar only listened to me which seemed odd.

"Princess," The familiar voice said from behind. I had been standing by the windows and admired the city in the moonlight. I turned around and faced Ragnar. His arms was crossed over his chest and he smiled as our eyes met.

"Ragnar," I greeted with a nod.

"I have to say you don't look like a strategic mastermind," He said as he took a step forward, I chuckled.

"A strategic mastermind?" I repeated as I raised my brow, Ragnar only nodded with a smirk. "That's because I'm not, I just like to believe myself as objective and simple," I said and he chuckled.

"You're anything but simple princess," He said and I couldn't help but to feel those muscles deep inside my core contract as my cheeks got stained by the tone in his voice. His eyes roamed my body as he took another step closer to me.

"Your father told me you're good with the bow," He said and I rolled my eyes. My fathers big mouth.

"I'll survive with it," I said and crossed my arms over my chest.

"I actually asked him after seeing you outside this morning, I'm impressed," He said and I chuckled. "I like talented and gifted women," He continued and took yet another step closer. I could feel his breath fan over my face.

"How good for you Ragnar," I simply said before walking towards my chambers. I could feel his eyes burn down my back and I peaked over my shoulder and smirked when I saw his eyes glued on my butt with a smirk covering his lips.

"Night Ragnar," I said and his eyes quickly met mine.

"Night Y/N, see you soon,"
