*Your POV*
Some may think living in Dallas, Texas is all excitement, and fun.
But they were wrong.
My life is average, the way it has been for years.
I'm just an ordinary girl.
Maybe it was time for a change.
"Y/N!"
My eyes sprung open to find my older sister, Sophia, standing by my bed and staring at her phone screen.
"Ugh, finally!" She groaned and rolled her eyes.
"What?" I asked, barely awake.
"Mom told me to wake you up, you're going to be late for school." She laughed, and left the room.
"What!?" I yelled, sitting straight up in bed.
I was late to school, again.
Perfect.
Getting out of bed, I ran down the stairs and greeted my mom with a simple good morning.
"Late to school again Y/N?" She inquired, chuckling.
"You're just like me when I was in high school."
I tried my best to laugh, even though I knew this would be my hundredth detention this month.
Grabbing a cereal bar from the pantry, I ran back to my room and got dressed.
"See you later Mom!" I shouted while dashing put my front door.
"Love you Y/N!" She replied.
My entire run to school was a blur.
Just for once, I wanted something to change.
*Jason's POV*
"Don't do it, you'll definitely regret it."
Those were the words that flashed through my mind as I reached for my gun.
My best friend, and partner Mark nudged me.
"Forget it, they're not worth it Jason." He whispered.
I glared at the group of hooded men that were walking away from us.
The motherf*ckers were an enemy gang, and they had bumped into us while passing by.
And it wasn't an accident.
"The next time they try me like that, I'll put a bullet through them all." I growled.
Mark knew I wasn't kidding.
So he changed the subject.
"When is our next exchange?" He queried.
The question hit me harder than a runaway truck would have.
For once, I didn't know.
I guess I was so caught up with everything in my life that I didn't schedule a new one.
"It's a surprise." I lied.
Saying that was easier than admitting to forgetfulness.
"Does it require moving to another state?" Mark inquired.
"Maybe." I shrugged his question off.
"The busy streets of New York were starting to get old anyway."
"You get bored of every state we move to!" He exclaimed.
"When you're adventurous like me, that tends to happen." I stated.
He shook his head.
"Yeah, whatever you say McCann."
-
Home sweet home.I sipped a hot mug of coffee while stretched across my couch.
I needed a break from everything.
Of course, Mark would never let that happen.
He was always alert and cautious, which could be annoying at times.
But no matter how bothersome he sometimes was, I needed Mark.
He kept me in check and helped me control myself.
Or in other words, he was a perfect best friend.
"I found a map, now you can tell me where we're going so I can prepare for the trip." He said.
"Can't we do it later?" I moaned.
"Jason, we can never wait. We always have something to do. You said that yourself." He responded.
"Fine, whatever." I grumbled.
Mark rolled the map out onto the coffee table.
"The fifty U.S. states." He murmured as my eyes scanned over the map.
"Do you know how old school this is?" I laughed.
"Everyone uses Google Maps now."
"Stop stalling Jason, just tell me where we're going to go!" He urged.
I rolled my eyes and glanced back at the map.I lifted my finger over it, hovering over the states.
I placed my finger down on a random spot.
"There." I said.
"Dallas?" Mark quizzed.
"Don't you know how far that is from us?"
"That's where we're going." I confirmed.
"Dallas, Texas."
That's the end of Part 1 :)
