Training!?

❤️Keith's POV❤️

They all finally look at peace. This new girl, she was something. If she could really fight maybe it wouldn't be so horrible to add someone to the team. Shiro, i'm trying to be what you want me too. (Y/n) shifts slightly causing me to jump a little. Imagine what she would think of me if she woke up, I'm staring at her like a creep. I just can't wrap my mind around there being another human out here. Her eyes flicker open. "What are you looking at?" She says scoldingly.

"I-I'm-" She starts laughing grabbing her sides.

"I'm just kidding, jeez don't be so tense!" I look away from her. Jerk. I can feel her eyes burning a hole in my head. I hope she's not like Lance, lord we do not need another him on this ship.

"Well that should do it!" I turn to find Coran by the door and moments later the blue lights flicker on. Groggily everyone begins to get up. I quickly stand breaking any awkwardness between (y/n) and I. "All systems should be functioning normally!"

"Great, thank you Coran. Now Keith, I believe you said something about training?" I nod at Allura. I could feel she was sorry, but should she be the one apologizing? That doesn't matter now. "Okay paladins quickly get into uniform and meet at the training deck. I'll be training with you, my skills need to be sharpened if I'm going to ever fight along side you again." With that she makes her way out of the now functioning door. I follow her quickly, everyone else, except for Coran, behind me. I make it to my room and rapidly slip on my suit. Eventually I reach the training deck, Allura was the only one there. "Keith."

"So you're really going to go out there again?" I say. I honestly did want to know, Shiro wanted, no wants, me to take over the black lion but that would leave the red lion empty. It just now is occurring to me that Allura could pilot a lion, her father was a paladin she might be able to form a connection. But I'm not sure she would do well with the red lion. It doesn't seem to fit her personality.

"Yes. I must do everything I can to prevent Zarkon from winning this battle. With Shiro missing you'll need me to fight along side you." The door slides open and in walks Lance and (y/n). He really isn't the first paladin she should get to know. Pidge follows close behind with Hunk. "Keith, I think you should lead training. It'll be best." What!? Panic floods me, I wasn't ready for this. No it's fine you've got this.

"Um, okay. I think we should start by having (y/n) face off with a gladiator." I say awkwardly. I find myself looking at (y/n) seeing her reaction, which is calm but I don't think she is truly calm, and then at Allura for some form of approval which I don't receive. "What weapon do you want?"

"Daggers, two. Their my best tools." She responds brightly. I just hope her confidence carries into skill during combat.

"I think I might have those in the armory, hold on let me see." Allura darts out of the room.

"I didn't know that we had an armory, I bet there's a ton of cool guns in there, like in a movie!" Exclaims Lance looking eager.

"Technically this is a battleship, so I'm pretty sure we've got an armory." Pidge replies pushing up her white shining glasses. Lance rolls his eyes and (y/n) laughs again. What did she find so funny about all the others? Allura returns with two short swords in her hands.

"I think you shall find this fitting to your needs?" She says thrusting them at (y/n). (Y/n) took them tenderly and found her grip.

"Okay, I think I'm ready-" she starts.

"Gladiator level one." Allura interjects. The white fighter appears before (y/n) and begins to attack her by whipping its sword across its figure and at her. She ducks out of the way cutting through its leg causing the fighter to evaporate into blue light and disappear.

"Fighting sequence level two." I say not taking my eyes off her. Once again the gladiator appears and swinging its blue sword about, locking into combat with (y/n), this time holding its own. The blades hit each other every second. Carefully when the fighter swings again she makes sure that one of her daggers meets its blade close to its hand and with the other arm she mercilessly jabs the dagger into its chest. Clearly she had been trained professionally somewhere. "Fighting sequence level three." I can feel everyone looking at me as if I had gone crazy, but I honestly believe that she can handle it. Immediately blades meet once again. (Y/n) was breathing heavily now obviously getting tired. Moving swiftly around the room, almost in a dance, they fight.

"How long has she been going for?" Asks Pidge.

"About ten minutes, I could microwave three burritos in that time, oh that would be good. Is there space burritos? Like is that a thing?" Hunk says drooling. Something is wrong why hasn't she beat it yet? Then as she rounds the gladiator her ankle gives way and her body collapses to the floor. Seizing the opportunity the fighter presses its sword into her shoulder causing her to release a scream. Shit.

"No!" I yell already halfway towards her. I block the next strike with my own sword pushing it away from her. My head clouds with a tornado of thoughts. How could I have been so stupid!? Shiro wouldn't have done this. I see a figure go by me and move to behind the gladiator. (Y/n) stabs her dagger through the back of its neck. The blue light reflecting in her eyes as she fell. I rush over. She lays her hand clasping her shoulder. Lines of blood ran between her fingers. "I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have. I'm so stupid!"

"Shut up mullet! It's okay it happens, I was fighting at my own risk." She replies faintly smiling. Tears crowd the edge of her eyes. Tentatively I slip my arms below her lower back and knees. I pick her up and start to run towards the healing pods. I no longer care about everything around me, or even myself. I'm so stupid! I reach the healing pods and one opens up. I set her on her feet helping her inside.

"Here this will heal your wound. I'm so sorry."

"Hey, I'm gonna be okay right? This pod thingy will work. But next time, I want to fight you. I don't think I like these gladiators very much." Something about what she said caused a hint of a smile to sneak across my face, but I quickly get rid of it, I didn't deserve it. Not right now at least. I start the pod and the light blue dome slips around her and she closes her eyes. I feel a hand on my shoulder.

"We need to talk." Allura says her voice stern. I walk past the others who where all looking at (y/n) trying to see the wound. The hallway only surrounds us now. "You should have ended the sequence the moment her ankle gave way! You could have prevented this! Putting it at level three!? Are you mad!? You can't just rely on these instincts! You're going to get yourself or one of us killed, especially if you plan to follow through with leading this team. Imagine if you were her, you wake up on an unknown planet and are taken in by strangers and forced to fight an advanced gladiator! How would you feel!? Please think about this. I know you want to get back to the fight, but if you're not ready to lead, then we can't despite the empty lion." What have I done?

Author's Note:
Hey guys, I just wanted to have a quick chat. So I'm trying to make this book as real as possible, and you may have noticed the darker effects of Shiro's disappearance weighing down on Allura and Keith. I specifically did this so the reader, having just met these people, could understand the realistic effects of losing someone you care for. So this book will start off kind of dark, but don't worry the reader will bring light and help shape these paladins and rekindle their fire to fight. So yes this book will be more light hearted soon. That's it from me, bye!
