Space Dad

✨Your POV✨

"Thanks for everything Coran." I say standing up. My wound had fully healed in the time I spent in the pod. It was amazing how little time it took. The feats we could accomplish if we had this technology back on Earth, would cause a revolution.

"Your most certainly welcome, we are here to help." He replies smiling. Something about him makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, he provokes an almost nostalgic feeling.

"Oh! Where is the bridge? Like where we were before." I ask.

"Just down the hall to the left."

"Thank you! Is it okay that I'm there? I kinda just want to look out at the stars for a while."

"Of course, this is your home, at least for right now." He says turning to the other pods pulling out a brush. One pops up from its holding place and he begins scrubbing it. I quietly slip out of the room. Following his directions I reach two sliding doors, they loom over me shining with the light bouncing off them. They slide open and I step inside. The room feels so much bigger now with out everybody. The lights were off and the space surrounding was dimly lit by starlight. I walk to the front of the ship staring out. What happened to me? Something shifts behind me. I freeze not daring to breath or move. No sounds, nothing. But something moved. I wait a minute. No sound. As silently as possible I turn around. Keith sits in the front chair. He appears to be asleep. He lays sideways his body in a fetal position. I take a step closer. He didn't move. He looks like a baby all curled up. Even when he is sleeping he doesn't look peaceful. Without warning he begins to shake. A jumble of undefined words pour out of his mouth. I start to shake him awake attempting to stop this bad dream.

"No..." he moans. "No please you can't leave me no!" I shake him more violently. His eyelids open and he sits up with a start. Panting he digs the palms of his hands into his eyes. His messy hair falling in front of his face.

"Hey, are you okay?" I gently speak careful not to upset him further. At first he doesn't respond, he blankly looks at me.

"Yeah I'm fine." Realizing my hands were still touching him quickly withdrew my grasp. He readjusts his position so that he faces forward. I awkwardly sit beside him. "Why did you wake me up?"

"You were shaking, I had to do something." I reply not tearing my eyes away from the space that lay beyond.

"Thank you. Again I'm sorry about be-"

"What was Shiro like?" I ask cutting him off. I knew if I didn't blurt it out I never would say it. Shiro was a living legend back on Earth, along with the rest of the crew from the Kerberos mission.

"He was the only one that really had my back." His whole demeanor had changed. A small smile came across his face. Most people wouldn't see it, but for a brief moment he seemed happy. "He was, is our leader. He knew exactly what to say to encourage and help everyone."

"So he's like a space dad?" I say.

"Space dad?"

"He's like your team's dad, at least he sounds that way, and since you are in space, that would make him your space dad." We sit in silence for a moment. Then I hear a laugh. Keith, the angsty boy with the mullet, was laughing.

"I like it. Space dad. So I guess that would make Allura our space mom."

"Exactly!" I exclaim.

"I wonder if that will catch on, I should have gotten him a mug or shirt or something with that on it." I giggle at this remark. The laughing dies down and once again we are plunged into an ocean of silence.

"What happened, you know, on the Kerberos mission? They never told us, and since Shiro returned, I don't think it was a piloting error."

"He was taken by the galra. Held prisoner. Eventually he escaped with help, but not with the others." Once again a sad longing look spread across his face, wiping away the smile.

"What exactly are the galra?" He suddenly appears uncomfortable like before, when we first got on the ship.

"They are an alien race lead by a ruthless leader. His goal is to take over the universe and he does so planet by planet. Thankfully Earth has not been touched yet. In the battle that we lost Shiro, we did a lot of damage to their base as well as their leader. They are probably re cooperating just as we are." He finishes returning his gaze onto the stars.

"When you feel up to it, I still want that rematch."
