Chapter 2: Mystery Man
(Beth’s POV)
It’s all a blur; my head is raging like hell with pain.
The car is filling up like a tank with water; and fast. It’s like I can’t breathe, but I’m not even drowning. The water is only up to my stomach but slowly making it’s way up to my neck and head. I’ve got to do something and fast. One moment I was driving along; the next I was heading straight for a river. Now it’s all just become real.
My trail of thoughts track off; I’m in too much shock to do anything to save myself so I just sit there. What’s the point anyway. It’s not like I have anyone to go home to… my friends Lyndsey, Abbie and Amy won’t care they’re too busy off with their boyfriends whereas me? I’ll be alone forever. So I’ll just sit here and let the car fill with water completely and drown.
The water begins creeping up to my neck… then reaches my mouth and is heading for my nose. I don’t even hold my breath.
The car is completely full of water now and I begin to drift away while closing my eyes. Until a hear a faint muffed knock on the window. I immediately open my eyes and to my complete surprise, there’s a man knocking on the window of the car as if he’s trying to save me. I look him in the eye and shake my head. He then shakes his violently as if to say ‘you’re not dying on me!’.
He tries opening the car door but the force of the water is stopping the huge metal door from swinging open. Then he signals for me to face away. What is he trying to do? I do so and he breaks the glass! He swims through the car window and undoes my seat belt. He picks me up and drags me through the broken car window and we swim up to the surface of the water together. Then I feel it. The pain. It’s everywhere. He drags me out of the river and onto the grass bed beside it while I’m constantly violently coughing up water as he hits me on the back to help me get it out my system. He saved my life and I have no idea what to say to him.
