Chapter 19: Supportive

(Beth’s POV)

I can’t believe I just ran away from Andy. I just didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know what to say. I’m a state.

I run into the house and slam the door. In the living room is Amy and Joel cuddled up on the sofa while Joel is fiddling with Amy’s hair. In the corner Adam has is arms wrapped round Abbie’s while trying to teach her how to play drums. They both laugh and he kisses her cheek gently while smiling.

I turn to the bottom of the hallway and in the doorway is a confused looking Ryan. He sees my tear strained face and instantly embraces me in his arms. I feel safe and protected and I can finally relax after running for ages. I pull out of the hug and he looks down at me.

‘What’s wrong?’ he whispers while drying my tears with his thumbs as he holds my face in his hands and stares into my eyes.

‘I can’t be with Andy.’ I manage to whimper through my tears.

‘Why not?’ he murmurs quietly so no one in the living room hears.

‘He’s infertile. We can’t have children together. I can’t be with him.’ I begin crying again and Ryan strokes my back while hugging me again. Then Andy enters. His face is streaked with tears and after seeing the state is in a fresh layer of tears burst through my eyes.

‘We need to talk.’ Andy managed to order.

I nodded and Ryan let go of me as I followed Andy up the stairs. I instantly regretted closing the bedroom door. We both sit on the bed in silence while looking down. We eventually look up at each other I finally pick up the courage to tell him how I feel.

‘I can’t be with you, Andy’ I say.

‘I know, I understand completely.’

‘I really don’t want to sound like a bitch but one day I’d really like a baby. More than anything. And if I can’t have that with you then what’s the point? I sound so horrible-‘

‘No you don’t, Beth. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner because I should have so you wouldn’t have got so attached to the idea of being a mother.’ He says while comforting me.

‘If your dad had the gene, how come he had you?’ I was confused.

‘Because he’s not really my dad. Mum had a donor’ he seems embarrassed.

‘Oh… I’m so sorry Andy. I hope we can still be friends and get along really well.’ I encourage to add positivity.

‘We will; trust me.’ He warmly smiles.

And that’s how me and Andy Brown ended. I can’t say it doesn’t hurt. I really truly love him but I one day want to be a mum.
