Chapter 24: The Finale

 (Beth’s POV)

 I grab the steering wheel faster than a gun shot and swerve the car away from the river. Instead we head straight for a tree. We crash and I head butt the glove box while Joel flies into the steering wheel with my hand still attached to it. I blank out and Joel doesn’t move at all. I wake up and still see no movement in Joel.

‘JOEL WAKE UP, PLEASE’ I scream through my tears. Nothing.

*time passes* I see someone running towards the car. Someone familiar. But it’s not Ryan. It’s Andy. It’s just like before. He speaks through the shattered window closest to me.

‘BETH! ANSWER ME!’ he screams.

‘I’m here! It’s Joel I’m worried about!’ I cry more. Andy runs round to the driver’s side where Joel lays lifeless. My hand still acting as a cushion for his head on the steering wheel.

*time passes*

An ambulance soon arrives for Joel and the paramedics remove him from the car and then I get out. I run up to Ryan and he embraces me in his arms. Then I notice… my arm that Joel laid on is covered in his blood. I scream in shock and horror as Ryan calms me down.

Joel is taken to hospital and I was all cleaned up. Ryan went home to get some rest but he insisted on my coming with him but I told him I had to do something on my own. The ambulance disappears. The damaged car disappears. Everyone leaves apart from me. I sit on the bank of the Waterfall River just looking at the water gently rippling in the slight winds. I thought I was alone but I hear a slight cough behind me. I turn and see Andy. He sits beside me on the bank in silence.

‘This is where we met’ I say.

‘No, this is where I found a reason to live’ he whispers and he wraps his arm around me and kisses me on the forehead lightly. I tuck my head into his neck and stare at the Waterfall River under the stars.
