Chapter 12: Going Steady

 (Andy’s POV)

We leave Lyndsey’s house and it’s a relief. Beth started crying because of how happy she was. I wasn’t sure what to do or say… I don’t know how to tell her what might upset her the most. What’s gunna happen when I tell her? How will she react?

‘Congratulations, god-mum’ I say. Is that the best I can come up with? Gosh.

‘Aw thanks. You seemed pretty quiet in there. Everything ok?’ she questions.

I look up and gulp loudly but try to look calm. But I’m really not. I could lose her if I tell her the truth.

‘Nothing’s wrong, babe. I’m just shocked.’ I go slightly higher pitched. Like that’s gunna make me sound more honest.

‘Shocked about what?’ again she’s questioning me.

‘She’s just a bit young, that’s all.’.

‘To do what? Start a family? Let’s face it no one’s getting any younger’ she says jokingly.

I roll my eyes.

‘You wanna go grab a take-out and watch some movies in front of the TV snuggled up?’ I ask hopefully. All of a sudden Beth’s phone flashes a tone for an incoming message. She checks it.

 (Beth’s POV)

 It’s my brother.

‘I’m back in town. I need a word with you, NOW’. I sigh.

Andy can tell something isn’t right.

‘Are you ok?’ he says innocently.

‘Yeah… I can’t do tonight. I have to do something. Don’t wait up for me.’

‘Oh right, you wanna go home first?’

‘Yes please’ I say trying to hold back the tears. I know what’s about to go down. And I’m scared poo-less. My brother has such bad anger issues. He nearly killed me once after launching a chair through a window I was standing in-front of the other side. And he’s gunna be super annoyed after I failed to show at his wedding. And I can’t exactly tell him I drove into the river me and dad used to fish at. He’ll get even angrier after it reminds him of our parent’s deaths.

Andy and I head home in the car in complete silence as Andy drives. He sees I’m nervous about something and he reaches out for my hand on my lap and strokes it gently. I look up at him and he smiles slightly. I smile back. He’s so caring and sweet. I just don’t know what to tell Ryan about how him and I were a mistake last night when I kissed him.

When we get home I quickly jump in the shower before heading to the place my brother will text me. I get out, get ready, discover the location to meet him and off I go downstairs. I kiss Andy on the cheek.

‘I’ll be home as soon as I can’ I say.

‘Ok babe’. Then I exit.

*time passes*

I get out my car at the abandoned location I agreed to meet my brother at. Well I didn’t really agree to anything. But I have to do this sometime. Face my brother.

I then see him step out from his car and walk up to me slowly.

‘I can understand why you’re annoyed but-‘ he didn’t let me finish explaining before he charges towards me and slaps my cheek so hard I fall to the ground clenching where he hit. I stand up and as soon as I do, my brother pushed me violently up to side of my car. I let out a scream of pain. He gets up in my face, his face about to burst from anger. ‘YOU PROMISED YOU’D BE THERE! YOU MISSED MY WEDDING! YOU’RE THE MOST SELF CENTERED BITCH I KNOW! AND NOW YOU’RE GOING TO PAY FOR NOT BEING THERE IN THE HAPPIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE! YOU NEVER MADE ME HAPPY!’ he screams in my face before something hard hits him round the head from behind us and he falls to the ground lifeless. I look down at my brother’s body that’s bleeding out. I then look up in front of me and see the person I never thought I’d see here.
