Amidst all the fighting,
The pain of wars,
She held up an olive branch
As a bullet sped towards her.
Time slowed down,
Everything stopped
Waiting for the end.
As the bullet hit,
The sadness and pain sank in.
The olive branch fell from her limp hand,
And her body crumpled.
The moment the peace offering touched the ground,
Everyone realised the mistake.
Too caught up in winning their war,
They had killed an innocent girl.
She lay there,
Lifeless,
Empty eyes staring up at the sky.
She had made the sacrifice.
But now everyone knew.
They realized how reckless they'd been
They realized their mistakes.
They called their retreat,
They escaped the battlefield
Where her body lay cold and still.
A sacrifice of one life,
In exchange for peace,
In exchange for ending a war.
