For the whole time his existence was missing in hyerin's life, all she could assure herself was that no news was probably good news. No news meant that they were still together. No news meant that her heart was still with him, and that they weren't breaking up.

As cliché as it was, the news really came one day. One fine day after he went missing for a good 3 months. She was sitting by her desk, staring intensely at the math problem sums she was solving, hoping that the answers would crawl to her, but evidently to no avail.

This was when her phone rang.

The special ringtone that hyerin had set for him.

Picking up her phone excitedly, Hyerin literally screamed through the line,

" Yah pabo !!! WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG TO CALL ME "

The line was silent, dead-silent, as though their was no one on the other side of the line.

" Daniel...? "

Hyerin asked softly. Somehow she could sense that something was admissed.

" Hyerin, we need to talk. I'll text you the address. "

That was all she heard before the line went dead, leaving her speechless, and lonely. Hyerin couldn't believe her ears. 3 months of not talking, absolutely no interactions between the two of them. And one fine day he decided to hit her up, with just a few words of conversation, and he left again? Hyerin groaned as she threw her head to the back.

What's going to happen to us?

In fact, Hyerin was in a complete mess. She was trying so hard not to sound tired nor cry when he finally decided to call her, but there he was, ending the call almost immediately after he had called. She was trying so darn hard to convince herself that her heart was still with him. Before long, hyerin found herself shuffling nervously towards the park whereby they agreed to meet at.

She was sure excited to see her boyfriend after what seemed like an eternity, but she was also afraid of the news that he wanted to tell her. In the midst of drowning in all her deep thoughts, she spotted a familiar-looking boy walking in her direction. Her face immediately lit up and formed a smile upon seeing him.

" DANIEL! "

hyerin literally flew towards him as she threw her arms around his shoulders. But this time, everything changed. He changed. Instead of wrapping his arms around her waists, he just let his arms dangle around, without pulling the girl in for a hug. Hyerin scrunched up her face as she slowly pulled away from Daniel.

He felt so cold, so distance.

" Daniel? "

Hyerin asked, looking up into his eyes. Daniel turned away immediately, ruffling his hair.

" Hyerin... "

Somehow, his voice found courage and decided to escape from his throat. Daniel closed his eyes, taking in deep breaths.

" let's break up. "

Hyerin shook her head, shutting her eyes as she tried to understand and absorb the sudden request.

" wha-what? "

Hyerin stuttered as she took his hands.

" babe. This joke is too far. "

Hyerin let out a uneasy laugh as she eyed the boy again. There, it was silence again. But the whole time, hyerin held her breath as she embraced herself for his answer. Almost her whole heart was expecting a sudden outburst of laughter from her boyfriend. But it didn't seem like that was very much likely to happen.

" no. Let's take some time apart. "

Hyerin closed her eyes, more aware of the pounding in her head more than the layer of dehydrated saliva that coated her cracked lips. She swayed for a few moments, stumbling a few steps back as she regained her balance. This was not what she expected.

Not at all.

"You're fucking kidding, right?" Hyerin asked, her voice shaking as she looked at him in his eyes.

"No, hyerin, I'm serious." Daniel shifted his gaze away, trying to hide the sadness in his eyes. 

There was just so many things going through her mind, and unknowingly, she blurted her thoughts out, rattling through with just a few pauses in between to take in oxygen.

" what is it that I am lacking? Was it because I haven't been a very responsive girlfriend? I'm sorry I will text you everyday from now. Is it because I'm not very tall? Nor am I skinny? Nor am I very pretty? Just what is it that you dislike about me? "

Hyerin opened her mouth to take in a small breath as hot tears welled in her hazel eyes. She fought back the urge of them falling, but before she knew it, the Pearl-dropped shaped tears started streaming down her face rapidly.

" no, baby. The problem doesn't lie with you; it's me. "

Hyerin inhaled a deep breath, trying calm herself down.

" Daniel what are you talking about? "

Hyerin stuttered as she looked into Daniel's eyes. She could hardly process whatever he was saying.

" Have you ever loved me? "
