Facing her step-sister's wrath was definitely not something hyerin had herself prepared for. Sohye's hands came down as it met hyerin's pale face. The slap was as loud as a clap and stung her face. It had been an open-handed smack and it had left a red welt behind. Just below hyerin's eye was a small cut where sohye's ring had caught her. Sohye was blinded by fury. She raised her hands again, hyerin's eyes shut in fear, embracing herself for another blow on her face.

The palms never met her face.

" Don't touch her. "

A deep, husky voice came up behind her. Peering open her eyes, hyerin turned to face hee saviour, only to be met with Daniel staring at sohye. His eyes were cold. Daniel flung sohye's hands away before grabbing hyerin as he dragged her out of the school campus.

Strolling at the park near their school, none of them talked. This was when Daniel grabbed hyerin's wrists, turning her around as he makes her face him. Placing both his hands on her shoulders, Daniel leaned in towards hyerin. So close that she could feel his hot breaths. Daniel gently carrassed the cut, wiping the blood away with a tissue. Hyerin looked down, unable to meet his eyes.

" I'm sorry. "

Hyerin speaks up, her voice was shaking. This made Daniel stop what he was doing as he looked at her in the eyes.

" sorry that you had to see such a ugly sight. "

Hyerin whispered, her voice cracking at the end. The tears that she had been desperately trying to hold back came tumbling out without warning. One by one, they left her eyes and slid down her cheeks.

" ohmygod. Don't - don't cry please. "

Daniel stuttered as he held her closer to him, pulling hyerin into his embrace, awkwardly drawing circles around her back as he tried to calm the sobbing girl down. She wasn't crying because of the pain, she was broken by the utter humiliation. Wiping her tears away, hyerin tore away from the hug.

" I think I better get going. "

" wai-wait! "

Just as hyerin was about the leave, Daniel pulled her back as he retrieves something from his bag. Spreading her palms open, Daniel places a band aid and a tube of oilment on it. Hyerin mouthed a thank you before giving him a soft smile. His eyes were so gentle, his embrace was strangely so comforting, too comforting that Hyerin willed that she could return to that moment.
