Tony Stark x Reader [Bad Days]

Summary: Tony has a bad day then pushes the reader away, but has to apologies.

Tony's life wasn't as peachy as he made it out to be. It was a lot of pressure being an avenger but also having to run a company and host parties, to keep his image up was hard to balance. Still when he did have days, where he was down in the dumps he rarely let it show, hiding things behind sarcasm and sometimes lashing out at people. Today was one of those days. Stark Industries had lost a huge business partner and several reports of hydra bases being active had come in, finally to top it all off him and Bruce had a huge fight that meant he was forced to work on this massive project by himself before Fury's deadline. You and Tony had met around a year ago at a party and had maintained contact. eventually becoming friends. Of course, you were always there for him, today included.

As you entered the lab you found Tony on the floor surrounded by papers and scrap bits of metal. There were a dozen empty coffee cups on the counter and it was clear he hadn't moved for a while. Slowly was the best way to approach a distressed Tony.

"Hay Tony, you doing ok?" keeping a soft tone you bent to his level.

"What does it fucking look like" he growled at you, though you ignored it.

"Well why don't we go grab some food and you can get a clear head?"

"I don't have time for that (Y/N), deadlines exist for some of us you know!" he was almost yelling now but still you pushed it away.

"You've been at this for hours and it's not healthy, a break could do some good please come out for a bit"

"I don't have fucking time! (Y/N) you won't understand how important this project is (since you can't grasp even the simplest of concepts) but I NEED this finished!" he stood up and pushed past you.

Ok that hurt...

You had always been insecure about your intelligence, and being friends with Tony and Bruce really didn't help with that. Normally both men were really kind to you and tried to explain things to you simply, they were also very patient when you were really slow at getting it. Not today though.

Instead of going after Tony as you often did, you just went home. About half way you realised that your cheeks were wet and not from the rain. Tony had never made you cry before but you had heard plenty of people warn you that he often broke hearts. You didn't think it would be like this. About half a mile away was the tall grey building you called home, top floor so you had a perfect view of the Avenger's tower. Even though it was only mid-afternoon you dashed strait for the bedroom and changed before diving under the covers. Despite the fact you were laying on a tear stained pillow, sleep came quickly.

A hollow sound awoke you. It took a moment to realise it was someone knocking on the door. Wiping your face clean, you pulled the cold metal handle. There stood Tony Stark. Dressed in a suit, holding a large bunch of red roses and chocolate. He was clearly nerves and looked like he had been crying.

"H-hay (Y/N)" your name seemed to cause him pain

"What do you want" throat dry from crying it came out as barley a whisper

"I came to say I'm s-sorry...honestly I don't know what I was thinking, the stress got to my head and I wanted to push away all directions, you included. I want to make it up to you, dinner wherever you like." He smiled meekly and started at his shoes.

"Thank you, Tony, that's really sweet of you but I have to ask...is this a d-date?" you copied Tony's actions.

"Only if you want it to be?" he asked it like it was a question, not sure what was the right answer.

You grinned and started towards the bedroom to change.

"Alright let me get ready" you saw him fist bump the air and then doubled back to the door "oh and Tony?" he looked at you and you kissed him suddenly, but quickly pulled away "I love you" then dashed off to the bedroom.

"I love you too!" he called after you.
