Metropolis was a safe city, so living on the streets wasn't hard for (Y/N). It wasn't her intention to be in this position but realising she had exhausted all the beauty in the countryside she needed a change of setting. The huge skyscrapers that loomed above, the constant flow of traffic, the widest variety of people, an environment full of potential. She was a photographer, and a damn good one at that, but people in the small village she came from didn't understand her work. They preferred old fashioned paintings, saying taking pictures wasn't a talent, well fuck them. After saving barely enough money for the bus fare, (Y/N) made her way to the city. She wasn't looking for love but if it found her, why not?

Clark's POV

I tried to hold back my super speed as I typed, it was taking forever to write this article and damn it was I bored. The typical sounds of the office rang through my ears, phones beeping, doors slamming, the world loudest keyboards, Perry White yelling. Typical day. Out of nowhere my super hearing picked up on the sound of the elevator cables turning and I knew someone was coming up, the doors dinged and out stepped a young girl. She was dressed in ripped jeans, faded hoodie and a blue baseball cap facing backwards. I didn't quite catch a look at her face but the striking (E/C) of her eyes was unmissable. With brisk steps, she strode into White's office. I tried to hear what they were saying but all I could make out was they were talking about photography. Suddenly I heard White yelling.

"Go back to your farm animals and stop wasting my time!"

She made some witty remark back, leaving him speechless, and she stormed out the office. Clearly not looking properly, she caught her hip on the corner of my desk (The most painful thing ever who agrees?). All I heard was a small 'sorry' and she was gone. Makes you realise how much of a dick White is, she was clearly homeless and he wouldn't help her out with a job...idiot. I resumed work (much to my distaste) and it was about an hour before I noticed the large envelope on the floor. It looked like the kind used to hold photographs. I didn't want to pry so I placed it on my desk and sent an email around asking if anyone was looking for it.

It was almost six now and everyone had said they didn't know anything about a brown envelope so I just took it home. It was annoying to not know what was inside but I wouldn't look, curiosity Killed the cat. Tomorrow I would put an ad in the paper about it and that would be that. After arriving home. I dumped my briefcase on the table and bee-lined for the shower, not noticing it fall on the ground and the contents spill.

Sometimes I wish I could just be superman, like fuck Clark Kent lives a dull life...

After changing I walked back into the living room and spotted the mess of my briefcase. A long sigh escaped my lips as I began to clear it. Once again, I spotted the envelope. Placing it on the table I sat opposite. There was a long pause as I thought about what to do. I couldn't take it anymore. 'Curiosity killed the cat but the answer brought it back' is the full quote. Trying not to rip the paper, so they couldn't tell I'd opened it, I tipped the contents on the table. Three things fell out. Photographs, high quality ones at that, I looked closer.

The first one was of the daily planet building, it was from ground level looking up and in black and white. It made the building look dark as it faded into the sky, the light hit one side causing the planet statue on top to glow like some bronze beacon. The building changed from some dull office to a stunning monument that took my breath away.

The second one was of a huge amount of lights. There were long strings of them hanging from trees, wrapped around lampposts, glinting in lanterns, just thousands of lights. They were on a dark background making them shine brighter than I've ever seen. The contrast was like a star burning on the inky black sky. Stunning.

The final one shocked me the most. A girl perched on the edge of a skyscraper, her legs dangling over the edge, nothing stopping her from slipping off and free falling. She was watching the sun slowly sink behind the horizon, it was melting into the distance, colours seeping from it. Blood coloured reds merged into a burning gold, then into a midnight blue, stars beginning to blink through at the single strip of black at the very top. Everything on the earth was dark, nothing more than coal coloured silhouette that made the flames of the sky burn even brighter. It made the heavens seem like a torch that was lighting the earth just for the girl there.

At a complete loss for words I tried to piece together who took these. Then it hit me. The girl that came in today, I had to give these back to her they were amazing. Studying the photos closer, I tried to pin point where in this huge city she was. The lights, building, daily planet...wait the lights? I looked at the lampposts again and recognised the park they were in, the same park the festival of lights, tonight. I grabbed the coat and the pictures before spring for downtown.

Wait I can fly...

Mentally face palming I took off and moved as fast as I could. The park was exploding with people, all in awe of the bright lights sparking around them. I landed not far away and jogged in. My search began, I scanned the crowd for the girl, granted I had no idea what she looked like but I knew what she was wearing. My eyes landed on a blue baseball cap and I approached. There she was, camera against her face as she captured a photo of the snowflake light before her. Slowly the camera was lowered to her side and I stopped dead. She was stunning, (H/L) (H/C) hair that looked soft as all hell, her skin practically glowing, mouth curved into the slightest smile and she took in the gleaming orbs before, though not a single light there was as bright as her amazing eyes. The only thing I had seen earlier and they were just as beautiful now. I realised I was staring and decided to ask her about the photos.

"H-hello Miss?" she turned and smiled softly at me.

"Hi, can I help you?"

"Umm, I work at the daily planet and I think you dropped these" shyly I handed her the envelope.

Her face broke into a huge smile that caused my stomach to do flips and heart to race.

"Oh my God, thank you so much! I was so scared I'd lost them for good, these mean so much to me you have no idea"

"I can see why" immediately I regretted saying that.

"Huh?"

"I-I so sorry but I may have looked at them...Oh god I'm really sorry I-It's just- "I began a stuttering mess and thankfully she cut me off.

"Hay It's fine!" she paused a moment "What did you think?"

"Amazing, like seriously they took my breath away, I've never seen anything this good."

"Wow really?" I nodded "I guess the sky is kind of beautiful in this one" she didn't seem sure of her work.

"Not as beautiful as you..." I mumbled quietly.

"W-what?" she blushed and I realised she must have heard, which I hadn't intended.

"Oh shit, you heard that? I'm so sorry, I umm" after taking a deep breath I tried again "Would you like to go grab coffee?" she smiled the same smile that made my knees weak again.

"I would love to"
