So I've just got back to school and I'm extremely homesick, this is literally how I'm feeling right now and I needed to vent I'm sorry...Enjoy?

..........................................................................

The avengers had facilities all around the world. Most of the time they were left empty, waiting for someone to temporally live there while scoping out an overseas mission. Steve didn't used to mind going away for missions. He was practically the leader of the team so he often took the away missions as both a good leader and friend. Getting away from the tower (even if it was for an intense mission) was nice sometimes and the super solider never found himself partially unwilling to go away. That was until (Y/N) made her way into his life. They had met at a Tony Stark party and hit it off instantly. Friends for barley a month then boyfriend and girlfriend for almost a year now. In fact, it was their anniversary next month, God did she hope he would be home in time. Since it was so close to such an important day Steve had been hesitant to go so far away, the alps were 3,989 miles away. Still for the sake of his team he took the job.

Now he was regretting it. Before he could infiltrate the base, he needed to observe for about a week to judge the numbers inside. Currently he was sat on a window ledge in sweatpants, watching the base and think of the (H/C) waiting for him at home. Was she missing him too?..

......

Meanwhile a young girl was walking around her apartment, trying to find something that would distract her. Steve leaving for missions had always been tough but since it was so close to a whole year with him it was extra hard. One of his shirts was laying on the arm of her sofa, on old faded short sleeve shirt that she had bought him at Christmas. Snatching the shirt up she tried to throw it away but found she couldn't. Slowly she fell onto the sofa and hugged the fabric close to her, it smelt of him. This slightly musky smell, that was hinted with fresh paint and a touch of metal. Maybe pine needles too? It made her start to cry. She missed him so much, he was her whole life. (Y/N) pulled her shaking form off the couch and laid on the floor, staring at the sky through the glass panel on her ceiling. Was he missing her too?..

......

The light to the base shut off and Steve knew the crew was asleep. Reaching onto the table behind him the blond picked up a sketch book, page marked with a pencil. He opened to worn out pages and resumed a piece from the night before. It was her, the woman he loved. The woman he couldn't see. Losing himself in the art time moved much faster then Steve noticed and when he looked up again the sky was bright. Not with daylight but with dozens of burning lights. Far away from the city the pollution was little that the night sky was clear as day. The inky blackness was speckled with the glowing orbs that lit the snowy planes around him. As the light reflected off the white ground it made the snow sparkle like thousands of diamonds. A small smile crept onto his face, this was amazing. He wished she could she what he could.

As (Y/N) stared at the sky small lights blinked their way into the night. Tearing the void of darkness apart and lining the night with little illuminations that reminded her of the string of fairy lights that lit up her child hood room. It was beautiful. Slowly she smiled, then laugh lightly. For some odd reason, she felt a little less alone. The stars that shone through the dark sky were like the light that shone through her darkness. They made her smile because she knew he loved the sky too and he was surly looking too.

Homesickness is an illness that plagues one's mind and tears you apart. Leaves you crying and broken because you feel unable to go without what you miss, land or person. It is on all consuming darkness that hurts. But sometimes a light shines through the dark, burns the dark in way that tears it apart from us and leaves us in the light. Looking around the darkness is gone and all that is left is that light. Homesickness hurts but it is weak and can be burnt out. Just as the stars burn the dark sky.
