Alrighty, here we go again!

Once again, this AU was originally created by asexualtadashihamada/everylastbird on Tumblr. All information given is based upon the info on the Conspiracy Falls AU Tumblr, and if anyone has a question about something that wasn't mentioned or elaborated upon there, I'll do my best to answer based upon what information we do have. :)

The Department of Enlightened Thinking

Headed by Fiddleford McGucket, the Department of Enlightened Thinking is a branch of the police department. Their existence is known by very few, one of those people being Stanford Northwest, their biggest (and probably only) financer. Their main goal is to make sure that the townspeople forget the existence of the supernatural and certain incidents involving the Northwest family. However, a few people have proven themselves to be immune to mindwiping, so the Department also works to encourage and/or force the individuals that they know of silent. They can also alter memories, such as making people convinced that Pippa Pines is a murderer...

Spellcasting and Wordsmithing

These are the two types of verbal magic frequently used in this AU. Spells can't be cast by just anyone; those with the magical ability to spellcast are the only ones who can read a spell and actually make something happen. The Pines have a rich history of powerful female spellcasters, but Pacifica is the first girl in the history of the family to be completely unable to cast a single one, which is why she collects magical objects and jewelry instead. On the other hand, Dipper is the first Northwest to ever have spellcasting abilities. (It's also implied that male spellcasters are very rare, so woo-hoo you go Dipper!) However, he is not aware of his ability until he accidentally cast a spell summoning zombies with a spell from Pacifica's grandmother's diary while trying to convince her that magic isn't real. That plan kind of backfired on him.

Wordsmithing is the ability to use normal speech and conversation to magically influence whoever they're talking to/whoever hears them into doing or thinking something. Certain phrases and significant words can be used to make a wordsmith spell even stronger, such as 'please' or any other word/phrase that the wordsmither focuses their power on. Usually, it takes a lot of concentration and focus to wordsmith, but in some cases like Dipper's, one's ability is so powerful that they could do simple wordsmithing without even realizing it.

A side note, rituals and summonings can be performed by anyone, provided that they follow the instructions correctly.

Mindscape Manipulation

This is the ability to access the mindscape from the physical realm and pulling from it to change and/or alter reality. This is the rarest and possibly the most powerful type of magic, when used correctly. People with this ability are typically lucid dreamers and have spent a lot of time in the mindscape instead of dreaming without even realizing it. Once they are aware of their abilities and how they've been entering the mindscape, they can also visit other people's minds while asleep, where they could possibly create dreams (or nightmares), view and/or alter memories, and enter influential thoughts into the thought stream. The only limit is the user's imagination. Since Bill's influence on Mabel's sleep and dreams has shaped her mind to automatically enter the mindscape, Mabel has the ability of mindscape manipulation, but she is unaware of the true power she holds. But once both Northwest twins learn about their powers, they're definitely going to become Ford and Bill's worst nightmares.
