Andromeda's POV
There's a storm going on outside and I am in my cabin with Anamaria keeping me company. She would be fine outside in this weather as she is used to it. But Sparrow said I could have any crew member I want to keep me company. So I choose Anamaria and Cotton's parrot who is perched on the back of a chair.
"How can we sail to an island no one can find? With a compass that doesn't work?" I ask Anamaria.
"Aye it doesn't point North, but we aren't trying to find North according to Mister Gibbs" she tells me.
"Do you think we'll save Elizabeth?" I ask her.
"Awk wind in your sails" Cotton's parrot squawks and we laugh.
"Thanks" I tell him as I give him a peanut. "When will the storm be over?" I ask Anamaria.
"Should be over soon" she assures me and she was right. Not even fifteen minutes later the storm ends and we go above deck. Cotton's parrot returns to him while Anamaria goes to relieve Sparrow of the wheel.
"How is Jack came by that compass?" Will asks Gibbs as I join them.
"I was wondering the same thing" I state as I sit in between them.
"Not a lot is known about Jack Sparrow before he came to Tortuga with a mind to find the treasure of Ilsa De Muerta" Gibbs states as he tightens one of the ropes. "That was before I met him, back when he was captain of the Black Pearl" he tells us. Will and I say 'what?' as we look at Jack before turning back to Gibbs.
"He failed to mention that" I state.
"He plays his cards close to his vest now" Gibbs states after taking a swig of his flask. "A hard learned lesson it was" he adds. I look at him confused as we all sit on crates or barrels to talk. "Three days into the voyage the first mate says 'everything should be equal shared, including the location of the treasure'" he explains.
"Let me guess, Sparrow was an idiot and gave up the bearings" I say and Gibbs nods his head.
"Aye, that night there was a mutiny" he states. "They marooned Jack on an island and left him to die" he adds. "Not before he went mad with the heat" he tells us.
"So that's the reason for all that?" Will asks doing an impression of Jack making me giggle.
"Reasons got nothing to do with it" Gibbs tells us. "Now you both, when a pirate is marooned anywhere. He or she is left with one pistol with a single shot. Not much good for hunting, nor to be rescued. But after three weeks of a starving belly and thirst, that pistol looks really friendly" he explains.
"But Jack didn't use his" I say remembering how the commodore says Jack only has one shot in his pistol with no additional powder.
"Aye, he escaped the island and still has that one shoot. He won't use it though, saving for he's mutinous first mate" Gibbs states.
"Barbossa" Will and I say together.
"Aye" Mister Gibbs says nodding his head.
"How did Jack get off the island?" I ask him confused.
"I'll tell ye" Gibbs states, he was always happy to tell a story. "He waded out into the shallows and waited three days & nights. Till all a manner of sea creatures became acclimated to his presence. On the fourth morning he roped a couple of sea turtles and made a raft" he explains.
"He roped a couple of sea turtles?" I ask confused.
"Aye sea turtles" Gibbs states nodding his head.
"What did he use for rope?" Will asks stomping Gibbs.
"Exactly" I state agreeing with Will.
"Human hair" a voice says behind Will and we turn to see Jack standing there. I see Anamaria at the helm with Cotton and his parrot. "From my back" Jack finishes and I scrunch up my face in disgust. "Let go anchor" Jack orders and the it was repeated as the anchor was lowered. "Young mister Turner and I are to go ashore" Jack states.
"What about?" I demand as I stand up. "Elizabeth is my sister and I told you before I am not leaving her life in the hands of a drunken pirate" I snap.
"I'm not drunk luv" Jack states.
"Yes you are and I am going whether you like it or not" I tell him as I climb down into the long boat. I hear Gibbs asks what they should do if the worst happens and Jack tells him to keep to the code. I know he was talking about the pirate code, Elizabeth and I know some of it. Will and Jack climb down beside me then Jack begins to row the boat to the island.
