Decided
by Lana Pangilinan

First, to tell this straight, let me tell you a story.
Five minutes after my first breath of the medical scented air of the hospital I was delivered out, my name was decided.
"Lana Inoue"
My religion was stated.
"Christian."
My gender is written.
"Female."
My future was decided.
"My daughter is going to take up business management."
But then I am here, I grow old without growing up.
I'm just starting to crawl. Fifteen years old and I'm still learning to crawl.
Why? Because when I was supposed to learn flying they decided to break my wings and burned them down.
Now I'm here. In my chosen strand, far away from ABM, my highest recommendation from my NCAE results, far away from my mother's legacy.
I'm starting a new.
Because I, myself has decided.
I

decided that no one else gets to decide for me.
Nobody else tells me what should be done.
This is me, I am me, my happiness depends on me.
I'll slowly grow my wings once more and soar high and if ever it can't be fixed anymore... Then I'll continue crawling.
I'll continue crawling till I can walk, till I can run fast and chase for my happiness and dreams.
For once in my life I have decided that I am going to be happy.
I decided to be me.
I decided to let go of the fears and expectations the people around me gave.
I decided to hold on into my faith, through him nothing is impossible.
I decided to stand against what's wrong and do what I know is right.
I decided to be friends with broken people, the people that our society laughed about, the people that saved me from the society's cruel life.
I decided to break the norm people feared to even change.
I decided to decide for myself.
I decided to let go and let God.
