Chapter 35

{1 week later}

A week had passed and plans for Erik to go into court were on a roll. Nadir was set to be his lawyer, so they didn't have to worry about that. Erik and Christine both trusted Nadir to make Erik a free man.

"Our goal is to have them fine Erik, instead of sentencing for his various crimes." Nadir said and they nodded in understanding. "We should also have people there to be able to back us up on the fact that Erik has changed." Nadir said and he looked at the couple waiting to see if they had any ideas.

Erik seemed to think hard about this when he suddenly got an idea. He walked over to the phone and dialed a number. "Dr.Gangle? This is Erik, I have a favor to ask of you, Mister Squelch, and Miss Fleck." Erik explained to his employee what was going on and Dr.Gangle promised to be there.

After the phone call, Erik turned around and smiled. "My employees from America are coming. I'll let my father know, he should be able to come as well. And Christine and Gustave will be there too?" Erik asked and Nadir nodded.

"Of course. They're top proof that you're now a loving husband and father. And they'll most likely ask Christine some questions." Nadir informed them and they nodded.

"When is the court date?" Christine asked curiously.

"In a week." Nadir said and Christine looked shocked. Why was it so soon? Were they even ready? "Don't worry, Erik and I have everything worked out. He's confident and so am I." Nadir assured her and Erik nodded in agreement.

"Ok, I trust you both."

The morning of the court date, Christine woke up and immediately realized that her husband wasn't besides her. When she rolled over, however, she noticed him standing at the mirror adjusting his suit. "Good morning, beautiful." Erik said and Christine smiled.

"Are you ready for today?" Christine asked and Erik nodded and wrapped his arms around her.

"As long as you and Gustave are there, I'll be fine." Erik said as Christine began getting ready. She put on her blue dress and fixed her hair. Erik had gone to get Gustave ready while Christine went to make breakfast. As she was, the door opened and Nadir, Meg, Madame Giry, James, Dr.Gangle, Mr.Squelch, and Miss Fleck all came in.

"Hello everybody!" Christine said as she set breakfast on the table. She gave hugs to everyone as Erik walked into the kitchen holding Gustave. He set him down at the table and gave him a small bowl of oatmeal.

Once Erik was sure Gustave had everything he needed, he said hello to all of the people there. "We have ten minutes before we need to leave. I have a carriage outside waiting." Nadir said.

Everyone sat down and ate before they all walked out to the carriage. Erik helped Christine and Gustave in before getting in beside them. Nadir was in the front with the driver. Madame Giry, Meg, and James were across from the Destler's. And the freaks were in the back seat.

On the way there, Erik was looking out the window and tapping his foot. Christine eventually placed her hand on his thigh to stop him. Erik placed his hand over hers before intertwining their fingers.

"Everything will be alright." Christine promised as she smiled at her husband.

When they arrived, Nadir opened the door and they all stepped out. Sure enough, there was a crowd outside the court house. Surely, they wanted to see the Phantom of the Opera. Well, he wasn't there. Only Erik Destler.

Questions were flying every second and Christine was getting really annoyed as she carried the scared Gustave into the court house. They finally made it past the crowd and inside. Nadir, Erik, Christine, and Gustave all went to the middle table. The rest of the group filled in the seats behind them.
