As soon as he heard those words, Erik looked up at her. His eyes glistened with tears that he tried to keep from falling. "I love you. I love you so much." Erik said and Christine nodded and left the room. His head fell into his hands and he cried.
Erik didn't know how long he stayed there, but eventually he heard little feet run into the room. He looked up to see Gustave standing by him. Gustave looked up at Erik with a confused look.
"Papa, why are you crying?" Gustave asked and Erik lifted him onto his lap. Erik sighed and brushed Gustave's hair away from his face and kissed his forehead.
"Papa did something bad and Mama is mad at him." Erik said and Gustave's eyes got wide.
"You better be careful or Mama will put you in timeout. Or she'll give you a spanking." Gustave said and Erik laughed.
"I'll be careful. Now, I thought you were staying with Madame Giry?" Erik asked and Gustave shook his head.
"I said I wanted to go home. So Madame Giry brought me back." Gustave said and Erik nodded. His son was the one thing that made Erik keep his head up. Christine might not love him, but he knew their son did. Gustave snuggled into his chest and Erik smiled.
"I love you, Papa."
"I love you too, Gustave." Erik said just as Christine walked into the room. Erik set Gustave down and he ran over to Christine.
"Go eat your dinner, Gustave. I'll be in there in a minute." Christine said and Gustave ran off towards the kitchen. She walked over to Erik and sat beside him on the piano bench. Her hand came to rest on his thigh and she looked at him. "I don't hate you. I don't know if I love you yet. But I don't hate you." Christine said and Erik nodded.

{3 days later}
"So you're really going through with this?" Meg asked as Christine began shutting her suitcase. They were leaving today for America and Meg was trying to convince Christine not to go.
"You're going too, so I don't know why you don't want me going." Christine said and Meg sighed.
"You shouldn't be around him! You should have taken your son and left when this happened." Meg said and Christine shook her head. She was about to reply when the door opened and Erik walked in carrying Gustave on his hip.
"The carriage will be here shortly, do you have everything ready?" Erik asked and Christine nodded. He set Gustave down on the bed and grabbed the suitcase and walked out.
"I should get going. I'll see you at the docks." Meg said and she left as well. Gustave bounced up and down on the bed as Christine finished packing his suitcase. Erik re entered the room and lifted up Gustave again.
"The carriage is here. Are we all ready?" Erik asked and Christine nodded. They all walked out of their home and made their way upstairs to the carriage.

After three days on the ship, they all arrived in New York. The Destler's got a carriage that took them to their house, and the others did the same. Erik unlocked the door to the white house and walked in. Everything was just as Christine had left it.
Christine let Ayesha out of her cage and the cat jumped onto the couch. Erik carried all of their bags upstairs and Christine followed him. "Will you have to work everyday?" Christine asked.
"Mostly. I'll be back in the evenings before dinner." Erik said as he started putting away their clothes. Christine watched and thought about their relationship. She obviously still cared about him or she wouldn't have come to America with him.
After dinner, Erik put Gustave to bed before walking down the hall to his bedroom. Christine was sitting on the bed in her nightgown and reading a book. Erik changed into sweatpants and a soft shirt before climbing into bed.
They stayed facing away from each other and far apart the whole night. When Christine woke up the next morning, there was no one beside her. But when she looked closer there was a note on Erik's pillow.
It simply stated that he'd gone to work and would be home before dinner. Christine set the note on the night stand and stood up. She wrapped a robe around her and went to go wake up Gustave.
She opened his door and walked over to the bed. "Good morning, Gustave." Christine whispered as she sat on the foot of his bed. Gustave's eyes fluttered open and he smiled at his mother.
Christine and Gustave spent the day together, doing whatever they could to keep themselves occupied. While Christine was reading to Gustave, the door opened and Erik cane in. Gustave immediately jumped up to hug his father. Erik picked him up and held him close.
Christine walked over to them just as Erik set Gustave down. "Gustave, why don't you go play? I need to talk to Mama about something." Erik said and Christine gave him a confused look as Gustave nodded and ran off.
"Will you be my date to the anniversary party for Phantasma?" Erik asked hesitantly and Christine looked taken aback. She reached forward and grabbed his hand.
"I wouldn't dream of going with anyone else. I think I love you." Christine said and it took a moment for those words to register in Erik's mind. But when they did he immediately pulled her into his embrace.
"I love you, my dear." Erik said and Christine smiled as Gustave came running up to them and joined in the hug. They were finally a family again.
