Christine spent the day with Gustave as she tried to get Erik off of her mind. Her back ached from when he had pushed her against the wall. "Is Papa sick again?" Gustave asked as he colored a picture.
"No, he's just tired." Christine said and she stood up, kissed her son's head before walking to the bedroom. Erik was asleep, so she quickly dialed a number on the phone. After a few rings, Madame Giry answered.
"Antoinette Giry speaking, who is this?" She asked.
"It's Christine. I was wondering if you could come get Gustave for a little while. I need to talk to Erik and I don't want him being here." Christine explained and Madame Giry sounded worried.
"Of course! Is everything all right?" She asked and Christine broke down in tears.
"No, not at all. Is it right to be scared of your husband?" Christine asked and Madame Giry gasped.
"If you're scared of him you need to get out of that house!" Madame Giry said and Christine knew she was right.
"I just need to talk to him." Christine assured her and the woman sighed.
"I'll come by and get Gustave." Madame Giry said before hanging up. Christine set the phone on its stand before walking out of the room. A few minutes later the door opened and Madame Giry came in.
"Gustave, you're going to spend the night at the Giry's house!" Christine said and Gustave jumped up. He hugged Christine before going with Madame Giry who had his bag.
Once they were gone, Christine took a deep breath and went to wake up Erik. She shook his shoulder and luckily he woke up. He sat up and Christine turned her head so she wouldn't have to look at him.
"We need to talk. Gustave is with Antoinette." Christine said and Erik nodded.
"Let me get ready, and then I'll meet you in the kitchen." Erik said as he got up and walked to the closet. Christine nodded and quickly walked out of the room. She was still frightened of him. He was sober now, but he was still the man who practically molested her the night before.
She made tea and sat it at the small table before sitting down and waiting for Erik to come. Once he did, he sat across from her and she failed to make eye contact with him. Erik opened his mouth to say something and Christine just broke down in tears.
"Christine, please look at me." Erik coaxed with his smooth voice. She gained the strength to lift her eyes to look at him. "I need you to calmly tell me what I did last night." Erik said and Christine sighed.
She explained everything in detail and once she was finished Erik looked her in the eyes. "Are you disgusted by my touch?" Erik asked and Christine shook her head.
"No, I was just frightened because you were drunk." Christine said and Erik stood up and pulled her up with him. His hands came to rest on her hips and Christine shuddered beneath his touch. He immediately drew back his hands and walked away from her.
"You're still scared of me." He said before grabbing his coat and walking out the door. Christine couldn't deny it. She was scared of him. She walked into the music room and began playing the piano. Her father had taught her some when she was younger. The song came as she played the notes.
"I'm tired of all the happy men who rule the world
They grow—of that I'm sure
They grow—but don't mature
I'd like the chance to hide in that worldI'm listening
To these men who aren't quite men yet
But aren't boys
Make noise
And throw their knives;
Their toys are people's lives
They fight too hard
And play too rough
They sometimes love, but not enough
My heart will beat at will, but stillIt's crazy how they're acting
It's crazy my response
It's stupid how I love them
So dumb, how I anticipate their wants
But as long as they amuse me
That alone is what's requiredSo I'll roar
Like I'm wired
I'll explore what I'm feeling
Except what I'm feeling is tired
I'm tiredSo tired of all the happy men who rule the world
Happy, frightened men who rule the world
Stupid, charming men
Silly, childish jerksThat said, I'll be his wife
I'll mend and change my life
I'll laugh, I'll smile, I'll welcome cheer
The time is right, the time is here
But happiness and love disappear."The tears streamed down her cheeks and she needed to talk to somebody. She called Meg and asked her to come over. She obliged and in a few minutes she was there.
"Is everything alright?" Meg asked and she entered the house. Christine shook her head and Meg pulled her into his arms.
"I was almost raped last night." Christine choked out and Meg grabbed hold of her shoudlers. Her face was stunned and Christine continued to cry.
"Did Erik give him a good beating?" Meg asked and Christine cried harder.
"It was Erik. He came home drunk." Christine whispered and Meg immediately pulled her into another hug. "I'm frightened of him! But at the same time, I still love him." Christine whispered.
Christine wnted to fix things with her dear husband. Things could go back to the way they were. That would make her so happy.
