Sirius arrived in the home of the Potter's looking haggard and sad. Lily was there waiting to welcome him into the home, being forewarned of the state Sirius was in. She was still shocked - he looked as broken as a smashed glass, his eyes were empty and he definitely needed a talk.
"Hey Sirius."
"Lily." He said simply. That broke Lily's heart. Sirius never, never called her something as mundane as Lily, it was always Evans or Prongs' girl, or some other nickname that he had came up with. James' favourite happened to be 'Doe' or 'The Stag's Doe'.
"Come on in." They made their way through into the main sitting room and Lily waved her wand, the kettle boiled. Slowly two cups of tea and a plate of chocolate biscuits hovered over to the sitting room without any physical effort from the witch or the wizard.
"You knew I was coming? Prongs?"
"Yes, James sent me a Patronus message."
They sat in silence for a few minutes, sipping tea with awkward glances, just sorting through their thoughts. Lily reached out for a biscuit, wondering how to ask.
"Are you okay, Sirius?"
"What?" Sirius looked up, drawn from his depressing thoughts, "Yeah, yeah, fine."
"I know James, and he wouldn't send you here alone if you were fine."
"Well he is wrong. I am perfectly fine, he is being ridiculous."
Lily sighed and left him to his thoughts, knowing that Sirius, stubborn as he was would eventually spill his emotions.
And it only took 3 minutes this time.
"How doesn't he get it?" Sirius exploded.
"What?" Lily said bluntly, despite knowing exactly what Sirius was talking about.
"Remus! How doesn't he notice!"
"What doesn't he notice, Padfoot?"
"That I'm bloody in love with him, Lily!"
"I don't know, Padfoot." Lily shrugged, looking indifferent and wanting Sirius to work it out himself.
"But...I've made it so obvious. The bike ride, I love that bike, I never even let Prongs on it. I was being funny, we talked a lot...I don't understand where I went wrong, that's what you do with girls. Talk, make them laugh, do dangerous things."
"Mmmhmm."
"Maybe I should make it more obvious. Maybe I should kiss him...no, that's too forward. I should just...brush hands and see what he does maybe..."
"Yeah, you do that Sirius." Lily wouldn't intervene unless it was likely that Sirius would get hurt from his ideas. It was best to let men sort out their problems themselves and sit on the sidelines pretending they are doing a great deal to help.
Suddenly Remus and James appeared in the fire and Sirius straightened up.
"Prongs! Moony!" Sirius scratched the back of his neck.
"Hey Sirius," Remus smiled and James chimed in with, "Hey Padfoot."
"Sorry I went ahead, I was desperate for some tea, absolutely parched," Sirius coughed. Lily smiled at his awful attempt at lying. Normally he was better than this, something about Remus just meant that he couldn't lie, it was rather funny.
