Remus' face went paler as he saw Jordan, followed by slightly hidden Jed, staring at him.
"Professor Lupin?" Jordan asked.
"Jordan. Jed. Hi."
"Are...are you okay?" Jed asked suddenly.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine."
"I don't know your definition of fine, but attempted self-harm is certainly not fine to me," Jordan raised an eyebrow.
"I wasn't-" Remus started, but the clever first years looked at him incredulously.
"You were, Professor, we have eyes. How has it got this bad?" Jordan looked at Remus, and he sighed.
"I can't tell you. I can't, I'm not allowed, Dumbledore specifically said not to tell anyone."
"You told me, remember, about the memories...and I told Jed...sorry," Jordan looked apologetically at Remus.
Remus chuckled, "Its okay, I would never be able to keep a secret like that from my best mate, just don't go revealing it to anymore kids, alright?"
"We're more than best mates now," Jed pointed out, blushing. He and Jordan linked hands. Remus eyed the hands jealously.
"Of course. I should've realised...well, I don't know how two first years are doing better than me in their love life, but it's not hard."
"You wanna talk about it?"
"No..." Remus paused, "Yeah."
They waited patiently.
"I don't love anyone...yet. I don't like them....I don't think. But they keep confusing me, I don't understand it."
"We are talking about Sirius, right?" Jed checked.
"How-how did you know?" Remus looked at them in admiration.
"Please, that was obvious. When talking, you described your significant other as them, never she or he, which indicates a relationship of the same gender. So that means male. You have lost your memories, you don't really know any one here, except James and Sirius. And something about your character tells me that you would never date a student. James is married, and straight, so that's out. Sirius, on the other hand, is lonely, sometimes depressed, and single. Besides, we see how you talk to eachother, when you are alone. We thought you were in love with eachother on the train, it was that obvious," Jordan explained.
Remus looked at him in part horror, part admiration, "How do you know all that?"
"Growing up with Lexi. She is the queen of deducing people, and she can see through both of your disguises. She knew Jed liked me long before he knew, and she knew that I liked him. I confided in her because I didn't know how to handle it, but she didn't have the heart to tell me that Jed also liked me back, how kind," Jordan answered.
"Oh come on, it was so better us telling each other. Lexi is always, always right, and we need to learn that sometime soon," Jed teased.
"I still cannot believe that she got 100% on that Charms exam, it was tougher than that," Jordan complained, nose scrunching as he remembered a test.
"It's not like she cheats, Jordan, we studied with her remember. She just has a larger memory capacity, and reads about a million books a year," Jed retorted.
"Still, no one can be that smart, 100% on a test that was meant for second years!"
"It's just dedication, Jordan, Jed, you could do it too, I believe that any student can do anything if they try had enough."
