An Eccentric Headmaster

"And this is the headmaster's quarter's entrance. The gargoyle reveals a staircase- Liquorice Wands!" Sirius shouted, and the gargoyle started to move, like he said. Remus and Sirius ploughed their way up the staircase quietly, the footsteps being the only thing heard from the two.

Upon entering the room, the first thing Remus saw was the pheonix, which he recognised because of the myths and legends he had been teaching. But he wasn't surprised anymore, so he turned his attention towards the men in front of them.

One Remus had met before, Prongs or James, and he was sitting opposite the other, an annoyed expression on his face as he turned to look at Sirius and Remus. The other man Remus was certain he had never seen before, in this life. The man had grey hair and a long, long beard which was the same colour. His eyes twinkled as he looked at Remus, and Remus backed away, slightly scared and intimidated, then started to step forward again after realising it might be considered as rude.

"Padfoot, where have you been?" James exclaimed angrily.

"Places, Prongs. I'm sure you have had a very good, long chat with Professor Dumbledore." Sirius said graciously, sitting on the two-person sofa, and waving a hand so Remus would join him.

"Call me Albus, dear Sirius, I am no longer your professor. If you don't mind me asking, how on earth did you get here?"

"Oh, the way that students arrive, Professor." Sirius smiled.

"You went on the train?" James asked, flabbergasted.

"Prongs, please, don't replace Moony, I don't need a telling off, it was a great feat." Sirius glanced to his best friend.

"No, I didn't mean that, mate. I meant, you went on the train without me?" James corrected.

"I wanted to give Moony the proper Hogwarts experience." Sirius defended.

"We got harassed by some first year students," Remus explained, "On the train. It was a very...interesting experience."

"Which students?" Dumbledore asked, leaning forwards.

"Jordan, Jed, Alexia and Ben. Good kids, very well-raised."

"Good, good. Now. Remus." Dumbledore addressed the man.

"Yes?" Remus squeaked. Sirius smiled, James smirked.

"Please don't act so scared, I'm not going to kill you."

"Okay," Remus relaxed, less scared of the headmaster sitting by him.

The headmaster stood up and went to pace around the room, putting his hands in a thinking pose in front of his face, walking slowly with a far off expression. After about a minute of pacing, the headmaster held up a hand and a book came flying towards him. The book had a leather covering and yellow pages, an old book that Remus thought was the epitome of a 'wizarding' book, old and mysterious.

There was no writing on the side or the front of the book, showing that it dated far far beyond modern times. Dumbledore took the book in his hands and sat down again.

"This book," Dumbledore began, "Is a historical book dating far back. It was one of the first wizard books to be created. I have possession of it in case it is ever needed, Hogwarts is always a good place to come to, the most popular place other than the Ministry and St Mungo's, not like you can apparate here, but Floo powder, and other methods. This book, to put it simply, is a dated version of a remedies book."

"And...does it," Remus indicated the book, "Have things about..."

"Memory loss? Yes, yes, of course. I wouldn't be showing it to you if not. Now, James, Sirius, which one of you is the best at potions?"

"Potions?" Sirius groaned, "Neither of us are good, neither is Peter really, Remus was always the smart one."

James nodded his head in agreement.

"Hmm...okay. I'll have to get someone else to assist...Severus." Dumbledore muttered, but James and Sirius gasped and protested immediately.

"Sir, you can't-"
"You don't understand-"
"He hates-"
"Remus will be in-"
"Danger, Professor, he isn't-"
"Mentally stable, Snape isn't right in the head, he has a delusion that we attack him multiple times a day or something."

Dumbledore smiled, and Remus frowned at James and Sirius' obvious panic.

"Mr Potter, Mr Black, you have to understand, that Severus is the best person for Potions, and this is a complex one!"

"I'm sorry...what are you talking about?" Remus was lost.

"Remus....there is this boy...Severus Snape...and he...hates us. All of us. He will never want to help us. And Professor is suggesting-"

"Sir, you don't understand! Severus is not trustworthy for this, please, an adult, anyone but Severus Snape." James protested.

"I will not let Remus work with Severus Snape. I swore to protect him. I will not let this happen." Sirius growled.

"Mr Black-"

"Not my family name, Professor."

"Then call me Albus, you are not a student any longer!"

"Fine, Albus, you can't do this."

"Sirius, please, if it is the only way to get my memories back than I will do it." Remus placed a hand on Sirius' shoulder, who relaxed them tended up again.

"Moony, no, you don't get it. Severus...I...you....we-" The man stuttered.

"What did you do, Sirius?" Remus sighed.

"It wasn't meant to happen. Snape...saw all four of us sneaking into the forest, to the Willow where you would transform, and he followed us one time...he nearly got killed, and he knows what you are...he will use it against you."

"Sirius, I'm sure that it was just a misunderstanding." Remus said.

"Moony, please." Sirius pleaded.

"Sirius, you know I have to go with Professor Dumbledore-"

"Please call me Albus." The professor instructed.

"I have to go with Albus' decision if he thinks that is what is best. Albus...what does this plan entail?" Remus turned away from Sirius. James glanced towards Sirius, and mouthed to Albus 'I'm going to take him outside to let off a bit of steam'.

Remus sat again and Albus sat forward ready to go over what was going to happen with Severus and the Potion.
