Sirius jumped on the first bed he saw as the Room of Requirement transformed into a dormitory for three men who were schoolboys once more. It was the same, exactly the same as it had been in the Gryffindor dorms, the same as it had been but with three beds. The same gilt curtains and bedspreads, the same plush duvets and even a roaring fire.
Remus sat down on another bed as James dived onto 'his'. The excitement the two who had been here before was sky-high, yet Remus was slightly jealous. After all, they got to teach kids, and that was his expertise, was it not? And Remus even got to meet a person who seemed to be these two's worst enemy, someone who hated him, and Remus only knew his name and a couple of old stories about him. Who was this Severus Snape?
"We're meeting Severus Snape at 2, right?" Remus bit his lip, needing to confirm that he had only two hours before he met this potions prodigy.
"Yep, and before that we are taking you round the school. The kids don't have classes today and it might get a little busy, but I'm sure you'll be fine. Act normally and they won't question you." James said.
"And how, Prongs, is he supposed to know what acting normally is?" Sirius chuckled.
"Ah, of course, Moony doesn't know! Act like a subtle prankster, you were a prefect so you supposedly followed the rules. Instead, you helped us break all of them, but you were subtle. No one suspected you. Pretended to scold us when we do a prank, but still wave at the students. Follow our lead but be slightly more quiet and dignified, that's the art to being Remus." James instructed. Sirius nodded enthusiastically. Remus sighed, again.
"And we are doing this when exactly?"
"Now!" James leapt up and Remus started to doubt whether he was sane.
This was a dream, yes. An elaborate dream, Remus had been knocked unconscious, or perhaps fell asleep in his classroom, there was no way he could be a wizard, and a werewolf, he was reading too many books, there was no way...but then there was Sirius. There was also no way that Remus could make someone like Sirius up, he was definitely real....so this was happening. Was it? Remus pinched himself, and sure enough, he stayed exactly where he had been, in the Room of Requirement with Sirius and James.
He pulled himself up and followed James out of their sleeping place, giving a longing glance to the comforting looking room behind him.
James and Sirius strolled ahead, while Remus lingered behind. Eventually he caught up, and Sirius slung an arm round Remus' shoulders like he had done with James.
What a sight they must have been, to the students. The three of them, back at Hogwarts without Peter trailing behind them. James, messy hair as always, Sirius, reckless prankster with excellent muggle-fashion-sense style and Remus, who was for now, confused yet still aware that James and Sirius needed to be put in their place.
The students were certainly in awe. There weren't many of them at the start, a few lingering on the staircases or walking along the corridors, but rumours spread quickly in a magical school.
'It's Potter, Black and Lupin!'
'Greatest Pranksters ever!'
'My brother went to school in his year, and he says they had the best pranks ever'
'They have a business going at Zonko's, know the man himself!'
'In the corridor, yes, all three!'
'No sign of Pettigrew though, probably busy.'
'James got married, you can't have a crush on him! And Sirius and Remus...you can't like them, it's out of boundaries.'When news reached the Gryffindor common room that Potter, Black and Lupin were wandering the corridors, Jordan's ears pricked up, hoping he could talk to them, say hi. No more than hi, otherwise his mouth would say things James had forbidden him to say. He jogged out into the corridor, where he was met with a sea of students.
"Hi, yes, it's us," James waved.
"God, Sirius, James, what do we do?" Remus hissed.
"Enjoy it, Moony, they love us."
"But....but," Remus just simply couldn't understand, a bewildered look crossed his face, "Why?"
"Why? Why?" James' face was now horrified.
"Yes, that's the question I asked, Prongs."
"We are legends, Moony, don't you get it? In our youth, we were the best pranksters ever. Even Zonko envies us, and now we work with him. The Marauders were the best, are the best, and the students have grown up hearing about us, through older siblings, some even were at school when we were. They worship us, Moony, and we are never here to see it, we watch from a distance, forbidden from entering the castle, and we can't become teachers, there aren't any empty spots yet." James explained.
"They know me?" Remus frowned, "Do I know them?"
"Well, you knew them, you don't know them now, obviously..." Sirius exclaimed.
"You probably knew them better than we did, we were never good at keeping track of names..." James trailed off.
"Or anything, it seems." Remus looked at them sternly. The pair look down, and one voice stands out from the rest, one voice Remus knows.
It's Jordan. He rushed up to the trio, somehow, and shouts something. Unfortunately, the level of noise had risen so high, they can't hear Jordan. James puts a hand up, they all follow.
"Please be quiet," he spells out in letters with his wand.
They obey.
"Look, guys, I get that you want to speak, but Jordan here is my mate, and I can't even hear him if he shouts at the top of his voice. Quiet, yeah? Whispers, please." The shouting that came before is replaced by the low gun of constant whispers, background noise, like the buzzing of bees, or waves by the sea.
"Hey Jordan. What did you want to say?" James asked. Sirius and Remus are looking the complete other direction from each other.
"I just came to say hi....to all of you. What are you here for? It must be important, Mc Gonagall seemed so pleased to hear that you had arrived, Dumbledore told her, she seemed ecstatic," Jordan explained.
"Oh...well, we can't exactly tell you." James said with an apologetic smile.
Jordan's look of disappointment cut James' heart into a million different pieces, and he couldn't resist. With a quick look to Remus, who sighed and nodded, he bent down to Jordan's ear. The humming of he whispering dimmed a bit as if the crowd wanted to try and hear what James was going to say.
It was only a minute later when James stood up. Jordan's eyes were popping out of his head, and he googled at Remus.
"You mean-"
"Hey, kid. Keep it hush, hush. He doesn't want people to know." James softly punched him on the arm, and waved to Jordan, "Bye kid."
"Bye James! Bye Mr Sirius, Mr Remus! It was nice speaking to you!"
As the trio walk away from Jordan, the noise starts to increase again and the Crowd shuffled forward again in an attempt to catch up with them.
All they wanted was to have a quiet tour around Hogwarts.
Good luck having a quiet tour, it's Sirius and James.
