Adriana's POV
He lost me there. I stopped paying attention after he said I'd be a great... luna? I've never heard of one of those. I guess it has something to do with a pack. He rambled on a little more, I got the gist of it. He stopped talking for a minute and I was glad he didn't feel the need to keep telling me the same things. Don't get me wrong, it warns my heart and makes me feel something I really don't understand, but once every five minutes is enough.
I smiled against his chest, now understanding what Mom and Dad meant when they said having a mate is wonderful. Dad used to tell me stories from before he told Mom his secret. He met her through his best friend, Matthew, and one day he decided to spend the night at Matt's house. The second he walked through the door he could smell Mom. Turns out Mom was Matt's little sister. Dad used to find every excuse imaginable for him to over to their house, but he worried Matt would be upset if he started a relationship with Mom. Eventually though, Dad threw caution to the wind. After years of holding himself back, he decided to make a move on Mom. Not long after he told her his secret and to Dad's surprise, she stuck around.
My reminiscing in my father's stories was cut off by a certain someone taking a breath to speak. If you ask me it's my turn for a question, "What's a luna?" I cut him off with the first thing in mind.
He seemed startled by my sudden question, "Oh, um... okay so, you know how there's a pack? Well to keep a back in check someone has to be in charge. The person in charge is called the alpha, he's typically earns his rank by proving he's the strongest and most advanced fighter in the pack. Well every wolf has a mate, some sadly never find them. But the thing is, when an alpha finds his mate she's given a leadership role in the pack too. The luna works alongside the alpha and helps him with important decisions and stuff... basically that's you."
I looked away from him and at the door to a closet that was left wide open as I thought. He said that I'm a luna? That means he's the alpha... and if I'm the luna, or whatever, I have to help lead a bunch if strangers. He must be confused. I'm pretty sure there's a misunderstanding here. I'm nothing special, even before I lost Darcy, I was still weak cause Mom was born human.
I tried to look back at Damien, but couldn't form a decent thought when I did, causing me to repeatedly turn my head from the door to him and back. I stared at the door as I spoke, "S-so you... you think I'm a luna? That implies that you're the alpha-thingy, and that's cool and all, but there's really a mistake here. I'm not a luna person. I'm an Adriana. Adriana's don't do stuff like that."
"Sure you do!" He brushed off my denying, "You'll be great. I'll be there and the whole pack will support you. You won't need to do hardly anything, just give your input when you see fit. I'll take care of most stuff, you just have to be there and be you." He smiled as he talked so adamantly about my apparent role.
"Why aren't you excited, the pack will love you so don't worry about that. Y-you really won't have to worry about anything! I can take care of all the stuff if you want. You just have to be with me." I could tell he was growing desperate. This thing must be really important to him. I've just never been in charge of anything, my opinion was never important.
To make him feel better I just kind of nodded. I didn't want to upset him or anything, but I still wasn't sure if I was alright with this. I felt the need to change the subject, "Can I eat?"
The question barely left my lips before I saw Damien transform into a mother goose as he swept me up, muttering how he was "Stupid, not feeding his mate." He plopped me down on a counter and before I could say "Achoo" there was a plate of food in front of me. I timidly took a bite of the reheated speghetti. It was strange how he just stared at me while I ate, but it wasn't going to stop me. I wanted, no, I needed the food.
I finished eating a little more quickly than I'd like to admit, but it's fine cause Damien didn't seen to mind. As I looked at his face, taking in his appearance I realized something weird. I wanted to see what Jax looked like. It's kind of an odd thing to abruptly think about, but it'd be nice. To see the wolf that I'm mated to. "Can we go outside?"
He was taken aback and paused for a moment. He glanced towards the window, "It's the middle of the night." He stared at me like I'd lost a screw.
I shrugged it off, "So...?" Before he could make up his mind I jumped off and walked towards what I assumed was the exit. He hurriedly grabbed my hand and led me outside. There was about seventy-five yards of yard before the forest took over. I'd always found the trees beautiful, seeing them slightly illuminated by the half moon filled me with joy.
Once we made it onto a little path through the trees I spoke up, "Do me a favor," his curious face nodded, "Show me Jax."
His smile spread from ear to ear. His eyes turned dark, with the bright flecks glowing in his irises. He eagerly bounced through some trees giving himself some privacy. Not a minute later Jax returned to me. His coat a dark, continuous silver. He pranced up to me, his tongue dangling from the side of his mouth. I couldn't help but smile at him. I had to reach up a little to scratch him. Not only was he huge, but it didn't help that I'm an undeniable runt. I scratch behind his ear for a while before just grabbing fistfulls of fur from the scruff of his neck and hugging him. It felt so nice having his soft fur against my face and through my fingers.
When I finally freed him, Jax took slow steps around my body. He rubbed his sides along me covering me in his scent. I laughed at his antics, marking his territory. 'Of course I'll mark my territory. Everyone should know that you're mine.'
This came really soon cause I wrote the whole thing avoiding angry people. Creativity comes from the strangest places.
