{That Night}
=Maria's POV=

"Maria!" I hear my boyfriend James Reynolds's voice boom through our usual hangout spot. None of my friends were here yet, so it was just the two of us and a cooler of beer. "Hurry the fuck up! I want my beer!" He calls. I know it was bad that we were drinking underage, but I didn't really have a choice. I didn't want to get wrapped up with the wrong crowd, but 'King' George had forced me into this stupid relationship. Knowing about my 'little' crush on Alexander, he threatened to send him to the hospital if I didn't date Reynolds.

All Reynolds had to do in exchange was get him some test answers for our finals last year. So here I am, at his disposal. As I dug around the cooler past the other soft drinks and alcohol, I found a beer and pulled the bottle out of the ice. My hands were basically numb, but it didn't matter. Before I could even turn around and get him his drink, I felt a sharp tug on my curly dark hair. James had pulled me onto my feet using my hair and spun me around to face him, leaving a stinging sensation in my scalp.

"What the fuck did I say whore?!" He says, yanking the beer out of hand and pushing me back down onto the ground. My lower back slammed down directly onto the edge of the cooler. Ow! Jesus Christ! "Ah!" I gasp as I come into contact with the hard plastic top. "Shut up." He commands taking a sip from his beer. "Your so fucking annoying sometimes, you little slut. Next time you-" he stops mid sentence when he hears the rest of our crew walking down our abandoned hallway.

"Sup guys?" He says casually to them, as though he was never even angry. "Hello Reynolds." Aaron greets, taking a seat against the lockers opposite us. "Hey." James greets, seeming more upset than usual. I don't think anyone else noticed, but I could definitely hear it in his tone. It may just be me, but I can definitely tell that something's up. I can't focus on that now, it's my time to escape. "I'm gonna be right back." I say, knowing Reynolds can't stop me now that they're here.

       "Where're you goin' babe?" He asks, sweetly. How repulsive. "Just going to give Susanna her book back. I forgot to return it to her this morning." "See ya." He says through gritted teeth. Ha! Can't do anything now bitch! Oh yeah; Susanna is one of my older sisters. Grabbing my phone, I switch the torch back on and walk casually around the corner of the abandoned hallway. As soon as I get past it I run as fast as my legs can carry me.

       I had to go seek out Peggy for help.

=Alexander's POV=

Peggy had been acting strange earlier when she walked into the nurse's office. It was obvious that she hadn't gotten in a fight with Aaron; he tries to avoid as many fights as possible. It's also pretty obvious whenever Peggy lies. Her hands start to fidget and she looks askance, eyes looking anywhere other than her inquirer. I would have to ask her about it later, but for now we head to the cafeteria. They said that there would be some type of  dinner for the night.

       "C'mon..." John said unenthusiastically, lacing his fingers into mine and leading us to the cafeteria. Ever since Peggy had come into the nurse's office he hadn't wanted to do anything. It's like he had just deflated without his best friend. I would love to worry about him, but I was actually getting quite anxious myself. For some reason, sitting down with other people and keeping up conversation seemed impossible sometimes.
