The next couple of weeks were tough. My family tried to comfort us but it had no effect. Jace eventually came around and we were inseparable. We didn't talk much about what was going to happen after court. Whenever we did, it always ended in a fight and neither of us had the energy to fight. Jace still wanted to stay and I wanted him to go. But no matter what I said the decision was ultimately Jace's... but I was scared he was making the wrong decision.

The night before the trial I cried myself to sleep once again. I woke up when I heard my door open and a familiar body slipped in behind me. His arms went around me and his hands rested on my stomach. I twined them together. "I'm so sorry," he whispered, his mouth at my ear. "I promise, I'm going to do the right thing. Don't be mad at me."

At his words, the tears came harder and I rolled over to bury my face in his neck. "Never. I love you, Jason. I always will."

"Metoo, Kadence. I love you." His lips tenderly closed over mine and I knew... hewas saying goodbye.
