Chapter 24 ~ Team

Matthew was slowly losing his patience. It had been six minutes since he sent out for his team. Six whole minutes and were still not there. He called Q again.

"Where are you man?"

"Almost there." Q answered.

"How far away?" Matthew asked again.

Right then the van pulled up. Q stuck his head out of the window.

"Told you we were almost here." He said.

"I got no time. Deckard come see this." Matthew shouted.

They went to the spot where Matthew got the bracelet and showed him the marks. He bent down down and observed for a moment.

"I thought it was only the girl and this Andrew." Deckard said.

Matthew almost called him out for calling Lily "the girl" but he drew back his attention to what was at hand.

"Yeah it's the two of them."

"Well, I see four people here. Two of them are quite big. Looks like your girl struggled a lot but the guy walked off with no struggle."

Matthew was glad to have Deckard around. He was the best tracker around. He would tell a story from a bunch of twigs. Four people. Who were they. Was Lily even safe? Matthew rushed to Henry. He was the intelligent one. Always seemed to know what's going on. Henry was busy cleaning his glasses when he went inside the back of the van.

"Henry. They are four people. Lily struggled. Andrew didn't. What's going on?"

"Andrew is probably working with them. They conspired to take the girl. Maybe for a ransom?"

Matthew slammed his fist on the warm metal of the car. He knew Lily's parents were not rich like that. The ransom was to be collected from him. He caused all this.

"Hey Amy. Chad." Matthew greeted.

They both nodded in greeting. The van was all set up with Amy's tools. Computers and technical stuff everywhere.

"Can you trace her phone?"

"Already did. She left it in the car. Its a dead end."

"What else can I do? I can't just sit here and do nothing. "

Deckard came running right then.

"You gotta see this."

Lily woke up with a pounding head. She had a headache and she was catching a cold. She squinted her eyes. The room was dark and very cold too. It looked like a basement or container of some kind. She remembered being kidnapped but she asked herself why. Andrew was the mastermind behind everything. Maybe he was a killer or a rapist, all she knew was she was in danger and wouldn't be alive much longer if she was kept in that cold room. Lily heard a grunt and her senses immediately heightened.

"Hello? Is someone there?"

Another grunt.

"Its me Lily."

Lily recognized the voice without much struggle.

"Andrew? But I thought-"

"That I'm the mastermind behind all this huh."

"Yeah." Lily said in disbelief.

Andrew chuckled.

"Sorry to disappoint."

"What's going on Andrew?"

"I'm sorry Lily."

"For what exactly?"

Lily was giving him a chance to explain himself.

"I lied to you."

"Already figured that one out. Who are you?"

"I'm me. About four days ago, my fiancée was kidnapped."

"You're engaged?"

"Yeah. These two men came and told me that if I wanna see her alive again, I had to do as they said."

"Where do I come in in all of this?"

"They told me to make you trust me enough to go somewhere secluded with me. They said I was your ideal man."

"So you just did it huh? You delivered me to them. Just like that" Lily spat out.

"I'm sorry Lily but Becca is sick. I had to get her back as soon as possible. I figured you could stay alive until help came but she wouldn't. She has already missed four days of her meds."

"Will she be okay?" Lily asked worriedly.

"If  I don't get to her today, there is no telling. They didn't keep their end of the deal. They said I'd have her once they got you. I was going to go and get help for you once I got out."

"Why me?"

"They said you had a rich boyfriend. They want money."

"I don't have a boyfriend," then it struck her, "oh my God, Matthew."

"Yeah I think that's the one they were talking about."

"He's not my boyfriend." Lily denied.

Matthew looked at the tyre tracks.

"This is where they got their car."

"Can we track them?"

"No it's gonna rain any minute now. We won't get far with these and we'll lose them if they used a tarred road."

Matthew grumbled as he headed back to the van. His phone rang, it was a private number.

"Hello?"

"Hey Matthew. We got your precious little girlfriend." A manly voice mocked.

Amy was already clicking on computers.

"Who are you?"

"Doesn't matter. What matters is what I want."

"Which is?"

"Money. Lots of it. I'll be in touch."

The man hung up leaving Matthew even more frustrated.

"Could you trace that?"

"He hung up too quickly. It will take some minutes to get a location. "

"Get to it."

"I'm on it." Amy said.

Matthew couldn't quit thinking how unlucky he was. Whenever things started going right, something had to go wrong. Was Lily scared? Was she awake? Was she in pain? Matthew made his second prayer for the day. Lord please keep Lily safe until we can rescue her. Help her through this ordeal. Amen.
