"Oh, no," Katie spoke, worry in her voice.

"Please don't tell me there's not a giant monster in there," Hunk pleaded, "Please tell me it's empty! Or is full of space candy. One of those two. Either one is fine."

"I don't think it's a piñata, Hunk," Lance replied is sadness.

"If it's the same kind of monster that attacked us on Arus, we already know how to beat it." Keith responded.

"Guys, be careful. If we know the Galra Empire, they're not too dumb to send the same kind of monster twice, so please be careful, especially with the Balmera," I explained. I could feel them all nodding in response.

"Hold your ground!" Shiro shouted as Voltron formed the sword and shield in defense.

As the monster's box opened, I fell small stings of pain, kind of like getting a shot, but less dramatic in my reaction.

"It's not candy!" Hunk shouted.

"And it's not the same monster!" Lance added.

"We need to draw its fire from the Balmera's surface!" Shiro ordered, as they began to charge at the large monster.

The battle was definitely intense. Voltron and Allura had to disband and retreat for the moment being.

Shay's family and I raced up to the Paladins in search for answers.

"What is happening?" Rax question, definite worry stained his face and voice.

"There's a monster up there that Zarkon sent to destroy us," Keith explained.

"A monster? Will Zarkon's savagery never abate?" Shay asked. "Perhaps our people were never meant to be free," she worried, her father hugging her in comfort.

"Shay, don't give up. Zarkon's power grows with every planet he conquers, but he's weakened by every being that fights back," Hunk told her in sympathy.

"Fight back against a monster like that? How?" She worryingly asked.

"I don't know, but we can beat it. Tell her, Keith," Hunk assured her.

"Can we?" Keith questioned doubtfully.

"Yes we can! This is our first mission and we're not going to fail," Shiro began.

"Shiro's right. We can beat this thing. We just need some time to come up with a plan," I assured, kind of stealing and paraphrasing Shiro's lines.

"See? Told you we can. Thanks guys," Hunk said as he looked at Shiro and I with a sincere smile.

The Balmera began to shake and moan, sending surges of painful energy through my body, causing me to lose my balance and fall to my hands and knees.

"Did you guys feel that over there?" Hunk asked his other Paladins.

"Yeah, we feel it,"Lance responded.

"It's that sound again. What is that?" Pidge asked.

"It's- it's the Balmera. It's in pain," I explained, my teeth gritted so I woukdnt cry out in pain as well.
