Lexa's POV
"Clarke!" I shouted urgently, quickly standing up from my position, bullets whizzing past me. A feeling I haven't felt since my first day being commander of the grounders, panic. Before I got myself killed, Lincoln pulled me down besides him, reminding me once again why I would trust my life with his.
"I know you're worried about Clarke, but she won't get hurt. I promise." I clenched my jaw, partially listening, I was making scenarios in my head. Most of them failing or me dying. My life's value was mere in this situation, if I let Clarke die it'd set a bad image on my people. I'll just have to take a chance. I quickly stood up my gun pointed at Nia, but at the moment she quickly grabbed Clarke, a knife at her throat.
"Lexa!" Lincoln hissed, but I avoided his glare.
"Get off her" I growled, my gun still pointed at her.
"Put the gun down or I'll kill her" she purred, pushing the knife harder against her throat, drawing blood. Clarke's desperate eyes stared into mine, for hope. I swallowed my pride and dropped the gun.
"And the knife" she growled impatiently. I sighed, tossing my knife to the side. Nobody moved as we stood staring at each other. We both knew that both of our men will spring into action once given the signal. I was about to give the signal when Nia used her best weapon against me.
"I remember you when you were younger, Costia was still commander since she was a dropout from college. Until, of course she decided to stop because she had a lot of girls on her-"
"Enough" I could feel my body going limp at the words, she was weakening me.
"I had you in my arms, with the same knife up against your throat. Though, that time, Costia didn't make an effort to stop me."
"I said that's enough!" I raised my voice, she was not getting in my head.
"Do you remember what she said, Lexa?"
"Love is weakness." I murmured, I felt Lincoln's gaze on me, awaiting for the signal. With the slight movement of the head, shots were fired. Nia, being the coward she is, was escorted away by two of her men. As her car drove off, I grabbed hold of a gun, blindly shooting with rage at their windows. Missing poorly of course, I was letting my temper get the best of me. I took in a deep breath and quickly grabbed Clarke's arm, pulling her back into the car while Lincoln covered us. I closed the door behind us as I pushed Clarke in, unable to waste anymore time. Lincoln got in and drove us away as fast as possible.
As we drove away, the sounds of gunfire died down. I looked back to see the remaining of men, climbing into their cars and following us. But, I wasn't focused on them, instead my eyes lingered on the dead bodies that lay on the bloody ground. 3 men. I could've saved them, but I was too anxious about getting Clarke to safety, I wasn't paying attention.
Once the sight of the bloodshed was gone, I looked over at Clarke. She was silent, her eyes wide and staring down at her bloody hands. She must be traumatized. I remember that's how I was on the first meeting, of course we were ambushed since they heard of the new commander. Costia, being the past commander knew this were to happen, she came out to help as she caught the sight of me being held at by Nia with a knife to my throat.
"My house is nearby" Clarke whispered.
"What?"
"My house, it's nearby. You can stop here, I'll walk the rest of the way." She raised her voice, making her sound more clear. She was obviously shaken up by this.
"Linc" I looked into the mirror, on cue his eyes met mine and he stopped the car.
"I'll be waiting here" he sighed, leaning back into his chair, exhausted. I was as well, but I wanted to make sure Clarke was okay. Only because I have to make sure she won't get in our way again.
"Clarke" I held the door open for her, her eyes seemed distant.
"Clarke" I raised my voice, her eyes snapped back to mine and she quickly scrambled out of the car. I closed the door behind her, walking besides her.
"What're you doing?"
"I'm going to walk you home. Wouldn't want you walking in the middle of a battle again" I made a sarcastic remark, rolling my eyes.
"I was curious" she mumbled.
"Ever heard of the phrase, curiosity killed the cat?" I huffed, my hands behind my back. No answer, I looked over to her to realize she was shaking, I hadn't realized it was cold but I realized it by now seeing my cold breath visible in the air. I slipped off my blazer, reaching over to drape it over her arms.
"Keep your bloody blazer" she snapped, she tried walking up her steps but I quickly grabbed her arm.
"Clarke-"
"Don't touch me. How could you kill them?" She pulled her arm away from me, a look of disgust and hurt on her face. I didn't get it. Why was she upset?
"They were going to kill you, what did you want me to do?" I kept my voice at a calm tone, remembering to keep my temper balanced. I put my hands behind my back, it usually helped and gave me a look of power.
"I don't know, make a deal?" She threw her hands up in frustration. This was ridiculous, she was ridiculous.
"Yeah, sure Clarke, we'll make a deal and happily get along fine. While we're at it why don't we all sit down and talk about our feelings? Right, Clarke?" I could feel my voice rising.
"Go away" she turned around, I quickly ran up the steps, stepping in front of her.
"Clarke, I did what I had to do." I could feel myself calming, keep your temper.
"You can't just kill everybody you don't trust" her voice risen, her hands flying around as she talked.
"Yes, I can" she wasn't going to question me, nobody can question me.
"You didn't have to kill them, you could've made a reasonable agreement" I rolled my eyes, she doesn't know what she's talking about.
"That would be risking my men and you"
"So? At least, you won't get blood on your fancy blazer" she tugged at my blazer, obviously not pleased with the idea of me being rich of some sort.
"So, you're willing to risk my men's lives for your feelings"
"I trust-"
"You're so gullible" I sneered
"You're weak!" She shouted, my eyes darkened.
"Do you know who you are talking to?" I tightened the space between us, my eyes staring down at hers. She stared back, fearless. It scared me.
"Yes I do. A girl who hides behind her blank face and hides her feelings to make herself seem strong." I opened my mouth, but she quickly cut me off.
"I may be a hypocrite, Lexa, but you're a liar."
